I am sure Reg and a few of the older posters here will be able to tell you a bit more, but I know he never played first team for us back in the mid 60's but I do remember him playing for Pompey against us a few times, big old lump of a centre back.
Here's a post of mine from 2008 on the subject.....
Speaking of Hands, the subject of those that got away often crops up and it reminded me of Eoin Hand.
He was a big strong Irish centre half, who we brought over from Drumcondra, around 64 as an 18 year old...this was Bert Head time and he and his staff could spot a player.
Hand never made it past the stiffs, which was a shame as we struggled for a centre half at the time. He went back to Drumcondra, came over to Pompey a couple of years later, and played over 250 games for them and gained about 18 or 19 ROI caps.
Later still he ended up managing the ROI, before Jack Charlton, and now works as a pundit for RTE.
