If being a band is about more than just the music you produce (and it can be) then Manic Street Preachers are unique in their ambition and should be treasured. Journal For Plague Lovers is a great record, and one no other band could have made. They also happen to be fronted by the greatest British rock guitarist of his generation, which can't be a bad thing.
As for the original topic, it's a complete overreaction and quite offensive that a painting of a girl with a birthmark is deemed "inappropriate". That said, there's no such thing as bad publicity and it's good that a band as long in the tooth as the Manics can still get under the skin of those too stupid to even try to understand.
Sorry for going on a bit there, but I do love them.
That's not going on a bit. Surely that's just the start? Could you bang on for another couple of hours about the Manics and save me the pleasure? Ta much.

I went to a thing a few years back that was Teenage Fanclub, Super Furry Animals, The Flaming Lips and The Manics as headline act. What a fucking brilliant line up I thought to myself. I was especially delighted that The Manics were headlining as I think they're dog shit so I was able to leave early and avoid the rush.

Big manics fan myself. Love the first three albums, especially The Holy Bible - a masterpiece. Everything Must Go was a geat comeback. This is my Truth... was a bit disappointing. Know Your Enemy was poor, with a couple of crackers (Let Robeson Sing, Found That Soul), Lifeblood was dog poo, wrapped in more dog poo. Was well impressed with Send Away The Tigers, their best album since The Holy Bible in my opinion. I will be buying the new effort as soon as possible.
N.B - having read that back, I am aware that it is one the dullest posts ever. I apologise, I'm sunday drinking to avoid inevitable monday morning.

Nice use of a lyric so old it almost certainly was written when the band was barely out of 6th form to illustrate your point.

Just heard latest offering and granted I'm likely to be biased but this is their best album for some time, wish I'd been able to see them at the Roundhouse !
