What do you make of this? Overreaction in my opinion. Is the album any good? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8050110.stm

When when of your band members is so ashamed of your music that he goes through some vigorous self-harming before having the dignity to top himself, it's probably best to take it as a hint that it's time to call it a day, not trundle on through another decade and a bit of mediocre boringness.

They're no too bad. Haven't bothered with their last few efforts though.

Didn't one of their original members run off and has never been seen since?

He jumped off the severn bridge as rumour would have it. More than likely dead but they never found his body. As for the band as we know it, i love some of their stuff. The older stuff mostly. Since the turn of the decade they haven't quite matched the same quality.

I've heard 3 or 4 songs off it which i liked a lot, it's getting great reviews everywhere. I know that doesn't always mean much but i'm getting it next week, and seeing them in London at the end of the month which should be good.

Bad day Ben...theres nothing wrong with abit of mediocre boringness, weve been saddled with it for about 10 seasons now,for what its worth the album is abit of a grower IMO.

They are the only band that can still write a decent protest song-I love 'em and am looking forward to seeing them this month at the Roundhouse.

Another great bit of art for their latest cover. Great live and to be admired for being one of the few around to truly write a meaningful protest song (quite right adje). Of course those whose politics oppose will disagree no doubt.Disappointed I'm missing them at the roundhouse (good venue by all accounts).

If being a band is about more than just the music you produce (and it can be) then Manic Street Preachers are unique in their ambition and should be treasured. Journal For Plague Lovers is a great record, and one no other band could have made. They also happen to be fronted by the greatest British rock guitarist of his generation, which can't be a bad thing.
As for the original topic, it's a complete overreaction and quite offensive that a painting of a girl with a birthmark is deemed "inappropriate". That said, there's no such thing as bad publicity and it's good that a band as long in the tooth as the Manics can still get under the skin of those too stupid to even try to understand.
Sorry for going on a bit there, but I do love them.
