Giving these old pros a World Cup medal now (after 43 years for goodness sake!) is embarressing. He knows it, we know it. I doubt he, Greaves, Flowers, Connolly, Eastham, Paine, Callaghan, Hunter, Bonetti, Byrne and Springett have ever kicked up a fuss about this. Well... maybe Greaves

Armfield and Flowers were England veterans, probably adding experience to the squad - I wasn't around so I don't know whether that's true

After the Rugby world cup, Greaves announced he was more interested in rugby than football... No one cared!

The 2003 one?
Greaves wouldn't have needed extra time to score a game-winning drop goal.

Armfield did get 43 caps, so he probably was good enough.

Greaves played in the first 3 group games in 66, got injured and Hurst came in. Greaves was a fantastic player, certainly in the top ten England players of the post war period.
