I think Rons right, definitly dont risk it because you will get caught Police are big on catching this type of offence and its really easy for them to catch you.We impound them at my work and they catch lots every day.

So do coppers know if i have no mot? or would i have to be doing something ilegal for them to stop me and then on the offchance they might ask for my MOT?

I thought if stopped by the coppers you'd be issued with a 7 day producer, i.e. you have 7 days to get yourself to a cop shop with relevant insurance and MOT.  Didn't think they would take your car away, arsehole copper or not.  Just my understanding.  Problem is insurance is invalid with MOT so if you hit anyone you'd be in serious shhhite.  Not worth the risk Chubbster.

Police use different tactics. Sometimes they just record everything and if it triggers the computer they send you a fine or summons in the post.

Sometimes they have little sting operations where they'll have an ANPR camera and a few cop cars lying in wait about half a mile away. The camera gets triggered and they radio ahead to the car for them to pull you over.

Don't do producers anymore, switched to fixed penalty tickets.

Agree Yeovil, it's much easier for police to catch motorists than solve who robbed little old ladies on their doorsteps, as reported in todays Adver.

Also, having no MOT means your insurance is invalid.

Not strictly 100% true, but you'd be a dick to knowingly drive around without MOT anyway.

Interesting to know spot fines are issued now instead of producers. Suppose it makes sense now records are computerised.

Other than driving to the garage (for a pre booked MOT) surely it is true Batch?  Isn't it?  Chubbers not on about driving it just to a garage so his insurance would be invalid wouldn't it?  Must say I'm not a car insurance expert by any means, again just what I was led to believe.

When I inadvertently missed my MOT date and looked into it a couple of years ago, and it was dependant on policy. Some stipulated invalidation through having no MOT, but some just mentioned road worthiness. On closer examination it seemed some policies would still pay out to 3rd parties if you were without MOT and may pay out to yourself if you write the car off, but possibly at a far lesser amount in particular if a defect contributed to the accident.

I was pretty surprised but I guess having an MOT just says your car was roadworthy on one day of the year.

GFM would know if this is still the case, a lot changes in the space of a year or two.

Being an insurance expert! Smiley I can safely say that not having a vaild MOT will certainly mean your insurance is invalid and if the police catch you without one they will do you for no MOT and no insurnace. Generally speaking if you have no MOT your insusers will refuse to deal with any claims and will invildty your policy due to gross non disclosure as when you take out the polciy you normally have to declare the vehicle is MOTed. There is some intresting case laws on the subject and there are some get outs but that is all abit boring and techincally.

However the insusers of the vehicle will still have a Road Traffic Act intrest and as such will have to deal with an unsatified judgemnt obatined although normally they will just deal with the claim. Also as you have broken the terms of your policy the insusers have the right to recover the money they have paid out from the policy holder.

Also what Batch says about the MOT just judging your car one day of the year is ture and one of the stupid things I have to deal as people always say well my car must have be roadworthy I had a mot when clearly there vehicle is a heap that should be scarped as they have fucked it up in the year after the mot!
