Someone you loved to hate. Despised him whenever he played against us, tried to emulate his bowling as a kid and grew to really like his commentary.
RIP Warnie.

Shocked...he had only tweeted his condolences about Rod Marsh 12hrs ago & then he suffers a heart attack himself.
That is shit. RIP

Really shocked at Warnie. Remember him being bigged up when he first came on the scene. Greatest cricketer I have seen in my lifetime - He mesmerised all other test playing nations. Not just one or two.
A decent batsman and good captain too. As for punditry, he was one of the best.
Sad loss to cricket and all of us wannabe leggies (who wouldn't have wanted to be leggies if it weren't for him).
RIP Warnie.

I really recommend the Amazon documentary. Very insightful into him as the player and the man. I echo what others have said. I could listen to him for a whole test series, his inspiring and insightful commentary was some of the best.

Not sure I could agree on his commentary (except on leg spin, in which he was unparalleled) as he tended to make the same point over and over again regardless of whether it was any good. But simply incredible as a bowler - yes, he bowled those magic balls that are being shared all round the internet but most of his wickets he got with sheer tactical genius - was brilliant at outthinking the batter and making them do something stupid.

Also, for year after he retired, any village cricket who managed to get a ball to turn (either through luck or judgment) was greeted by 'Bowled Warnie!'

Rodney Marsh, ex Australian Wicket Keeper died the same day as Warney aged 74. Warney had commented on the passing of Marsh just before he died.

Heartbreaking news, such a larger than life character. The best spinner in my lifetime and maybe ever. Changed the way spinners were viewed in the game. Like many I have only recently watched the documentary about him and he certainly lived every day to the fullest. A life very well lived, but way way too short. Very sad indeed.

Really awful news. Quite possibly the best bowler ever and a huge personality.

No probs Jimmy. Cheers to you Kev too 👍. That Warnie tweeted about Marsh passing so soon before he passed himself feels both sobering and even more upsetting. This is one of those celebrity passings that feels like it hits home even more than usual. Genuinely upset by this ‘snuffing’
