absolute cockmunchers- tiscali were meant to cancel my internet at my parents and the last payment made in november, would be cut off end of november, no more me paying the net for my parents.

instead they've just continued as if i've said nothing and continued taking money.

short of emailing them and cancelling my direct debit with them does anyone else have any suggestions what else i can do?

oh they also refused to give me a mac code on the day i cancelled saying it was one or the other...does that sound right?

Report them to OFCOM.

Do you have any of the correspondance telling them you were moving etc?

Just cancel your direct debit. They were cunts when I tried to leave them.

In the end they threatened bayliffs when I owed them 67p.

Mention Otello when you contact them, in the same breath as saying, having contacted Ofcom/newspaper and put a fake cc: on the letter as well.

I used to work in the last line of complaints in a telecoms company and should the word Otello appear in a letter of complaint, everything , within reason, that was asked for, was given, invariably without any investigation at all. Something like this in a letter to us, would normally do the trick: "After contacting Oftel (as it used to be called) (or some random media company newspaper), i have been advised that my complaint will soon be forwarded to Otello for a full investigation".

Otello costs BIG money for the company and normally makes them shit themselves. Ofcom etc can be brushed off as easily as a customer with lower level standardised responses, but Otello changes the whole game in a big way. I fortunately never directly dealt with a complaint that had been escalated to Otello, as my boss always coughed up without question. But a colleague explained she'd once had a complaint reach them and her boss refused compo, which would have cost about £50, and next thing we know we're getting invoiced by Otello for £300 or something just for them writing to us to find out what the fuck we're playing at.

This was 5 years ago, but i don't think the game has changed that much.

why do people thing that threating to let the papers know is a threat? do you really think that big compaines really care that one person is complaiing to some small local rag and secondly I hardly think that a newpaper would print the fact that a company couldn't cancel a subsription. People ofetn threaten us with the report to a newspaper and I always say " My name is gfm please do quote this coversation and let me know when they print it so I can put it in my scarp book"

It's illegal to refuse to give your MAC code over. If your folks want to switch but not cancel, ring them up and ask them for a code again. If they refuse, say they have to provide one by law (within 5 days I think, but you may want to check this).

If you just need to cancel I'd take other people's advice.

i wanted to cancel but they insisted i could only cancel, and then obtain the MAC code another day. presumeably so they could deny my conversation took place.

an email has been sent, i look forward to their reply etc

You only need the code to migrate to another service with no downtime, but once you cancel and the service stops you can't get a MAC code.

i'm probably explaining myself really badly but that's kind of the point- they've done neither (stop the net or give me a mac)

I think I get ya. You don't need a MAC code but want to cancel, but they haven't done either.

Good luck, I've heard they're cunts for replying to emails too. If they don't reply I think we should do a TEF en masse email.
