Don't worry about not having a written copy of their correspondance; They almost certainly will record all calls.

why do people thing that threating to let the papers know is a threat? do you really think that big compaines really care that one person is complaiing to some small local rag and secondly I hardly think that a newpaper would print the fact that a company couldn't cancel a subsription. People ofetn threaten us with the report to a newspaper and I always say " My name is gfm please do quote this coversation and let me know when they print it so I can put it in my scarp book"

For someone who works in insurance, you couldn't be more wrong. Media relations are a very big deal to insurance companies and they will generally jump through hoops to stop any bad press wherever possible.

Thank you Sam, GFM may be the media tough guy, but the company i used to work for would absolutely go off if we got letters from the media, because we should have solved the problems before the newspaper follows up.

So yes GFM, you may not care and your company may not, but i can assure you the company i used to work for would flip over the media, often more than the governing bodies. Afterall, who visits the governing body's website to see who's shittest, and who believes every word in the paper...

It has to be said though, if we were completely in the right, we would kinda let them at it and threaten them.

Have you been in contact with Oftel as well? Because unless you've been escalated to Otelo by Oftel they'll ignore you, unless you're just trying to trick them as i mentioned. I merely wondered if you'd entered the complaints process yet.

Even so, it used to work like a charm and i'll be suprised if it still doesn't help you, because it implies you know the score as well as have some knowledge of the threat of massive Otello invoices.

i'm with tiscali and they are fucking useless when you need to contact them for any issue.i've complained loads of times, and they've tried to change my phone to their service without my say so on 3 occasions.to be fair they have given me 6 months free due to the hassle i've had,and when it works ok(which is most of the time)it's pretty good value overall.
they are like what ntl used to be like with regard to customer service really

If I notice performance issues with my ISP and have only been with them 4 weeks or so, can I cancel the contract do you think?

Normally there's only a 14 day cooling off period.

Plus, if it's performance issues than it's most likely your line not the ISP.

I use plusnet and can honestly say that they are superb.  Having switched from BT plusnet are the business especially as I am out in the sticks and till get 3mb downloads.

They also do a deal where you can have unlimited downloads (without the usual fair use policy) with lower contention ratios between midnight and 8am - great for large files so you can schedule them without fear of going over the 15gb limit

Can't blame a man for trying - did I mention they also do a referral scheme where you can get your broadband for free? Wink
