No! Some good ideas, the problem is that things like ipods, digital cameras, etc, he's already got. It'll probably end up being vouchers, which is a cop out.

fair enough, who is paying for them currently? they dont come cheap. When I was doing lessons all I got for Christmas was money to go towards lessons but then I was still a student at the time.
Is he sorted for a car, could always say heres £100 to go towards a car or something.

Well I was basing that idea purely on the fact that a decent replica lightsaber would be an awesome gift for me. I could imagine myself doing a 'Star Wars Kid' on Christmas day in my living room.
