Poor old Phil Neal won't be watching TV tonight... Unless Graham Taylor tells him too!

Yes boss.....was that all he said in the documentary? I think so. His turn as Graham Taylor's lapdog essentially ruined his coaching career. But in fairness he was doing a good job doing that on his own.

Taylor actually had a tough job to do, the England team were in a transitional period, very average players available at the time, he, like a certain Town manager, was never flavour of the month, mocked by the press constantly - like it says "An Impossible Job".
Do I not like that.

Also replaced a mega-popular manager, never easy. The player pool looking back wasn't great. Sounds familiar aswell!

Might be a nice bloke, but any manager awarding 20 odd caps to Carlton Palmer gets no sympathy from me,though the referees perforance v Holland was a disgrace and a win in that match and things wouldve been different, sounds all too familar though.

Before Euro '92 England under Taylor had only lost once (to the Germans) in over 20 matches. England got to Sweden and buckled. After brief redemption immediately after the competition it all went ridiculously bad after the loss with Norway.

Just to be objective, Bobby Robson was never particularly popular, no England manager has been not even Sir Alf...which is why it's the impossible job.

Fair enough... How about a manager who succeeded in reaching his bare minimum objectives of qualifying for international competitions and even in one case overachieved?
