So we're signing Cox, Williams and Collins?
5 up front next season then?
And Michael Owen.

It's being reported that Holmes has been released from Southampton I'd definitely snap him up on a free providing his wages were not too steep. Think we were paying most if not all of them when he was on loan here at Swindon.

It's quite simple. He's been strongly linked with a player/coach role at Swindon and his car was spotted at the CG earlier today.

Surely Crewe would have snatched at £2m? Seems odd to pay so much to a lower league team. Perhaps that figure includes special bonuses, like for a second half hat-trick for England against Germany in a world cup final at Wembley... or something.

Exactly, probably the total cost of the deal with a million and one add-ons like captaining England to World cup glory.

Depends what others were willing to pay to a large extent. Maybe a few teams prepared to pay £2m but only 1 would double that. And I would expect that deal would include bonuses for fulfilling his expected potential (even if not as extreme as you suggested).
