Sounds good. How much tax will you pay on a company car though? Is it worth it?

I know mate, just fed up with running my own and all the hassle that goes with it !, pay for own fuel, tyres, breakdowns etc

The scheme allows for a reduced price car and take the rest as allowance so might go for that, although I am not sure how that works !

The car's taxed at a flat percentage rate based on your emissions and this is multiplied by the list price of your car. Regardless of how old it is.

If a company pays for your fuel to and from the office and for personal use (i.e. all your fuel costs) then the same flat percentage is applied to £14,400, regardless of how much/little fuel they pay for.

Get a low emissions car basically!

Whilst I feel a tad guilty in leaving a company that has neen so good to me during my recent problems, I am afraid that I need to look after number 1 and the increase in salary is fantastic.

I don't know, the days of loyalty in the <insert your industry> are long since gone. You should do it for the love of your <insert company here>, not looking out for #1. Soapy Tit Wank

Seriously, if times were hard and the company was forced to lay you off they may do it with a heavy heart, but they'd still do it.  It would be an understandable business decision. You taking a better job  is no different.

Congratulations.

OK

I have kept shtumm about this for a while as I did not want to tempt fate, but approximately a month ago I was headhunted by a consultancy in London (quite where they got my contact details from is beyond me !)

Clearly, they read this forum. Congratulations, hope it works out for you Fred.

Well done Geezer, there is no loyalty these days from either side, it is all about looking out for yourself and with the 20% increase sounds a bargain.
