OK
I have kept shtumm about this for a while as I did not want to tempt fate, but approximately a month ago I was headhunted by a consultancy in London (quite where they got my contact details from is beyond me !)
Anyway I went and had a chat and today they have officially offered me the position of managing their Mercedes account.
The position is still London based and they have no problems about my recent health etc, and will fund rail travel until which time I get my licence back. I then have a choice of company car (any make) upto a certain value which is ermm, generous to say the least.
The overall package is amazing with a 20% increase on my existing base salary, non contributory pension, 30 days holiday, and healthcare for myself and Jenna, coupled with free life assurance.
Whilst I feel a tad guilty in leaving a company that has neen so good to me during my recent problems, I am afraid that I need to look after number 1 and the increase in salary is fantastic.
Needless to say, I am a happy bunny today !

Sounds good. How much tax will you pay on a company car though? Is it worth it?

The loyalty bit, hard decision, but 20% more on salary and all the benefits I suppose it's not really that hard a decision, always look after No. 1 Fred.

I know mate, just fed up with running my own and all the hassle that goes with it !, pay for own fuel, tyres, breakdowns etc The scheme allows for a reduced price car and take the rest as allowance so might go for that, although I am not sure how that works !

I know Dell, it will be a wrench and I have got this guilt in the pit of my stomach because they have really looked after me when they could have thrown me on the scrap heap. It has been a difficult decision, and in part that is why I have kept quiet, but the the increase in monthly salary is substantial and what with a mortgage on my own plus Jenna's maintenance, it makes sense

The car's taxed at a flat percentage rate based on your emissions and this is multiplied by the list price of your car. Regardless of how old it is. If a company pays for your fuel to and from the office and for personal use (i.e. all your fuel costs) then the same flat percentage is applied to £14,400, regardless of how much/little fuel they pay for. Get a low emissions car basically!
