Fucking Disgusted

I think it's less to do with a PC attitude and more to do with schools attempting to get the balance right between encouraging broad participation in sport and sporting excellence. In my day at school the PE teachers were only really interested in the ones with some natural ability because they wanted to win things with the school team, get pupils into county teams etc. The rest of the school could just skive around at the back of the school field or up the wall bars in the gym for a few hours a week and no-one cared.

However, now they've got all sorts of pressures to try to ensure that everyone gets into sport to stop the rest of the school population turning into a bunch of lardy bastards.

Not an easy balance to get right.

Combine that with the fact that school playing fields have been sold off, after school activities have been limited, and the number of PE lessons each week have been reduced and it's not an easy job.
