I see from your avatar that you have perhaps bought an A3/S3?

Perhaps. My A3 is in for its 72,500 km service with Audi on Friday. I'll let Ralphy know how much it cost, don't expect it to be cheap!

good choices, both very nice

are you looking at the latest models? if so i'd go for the s3 as the new golf looks shit.

prefer the previous incarnations of both though, especially the R32

I like the new Golf to be honest and the DSG gearbox is superb, nothing shifts up and down faster.

The S3 is faster but doesn't have the lovely engine noise of the V6 Golf. The S3 has an uprated 2 litre Golf GTi engine.

Evo magazine done performance tests on both recently.

R32 did 0-60 in 5.8 secs and 0-100 in 15.2 secs

S3 did 0-60 in 5.6 secs and 0-100 in 13.6 secs.

Those S3 figures aren't far off supercar pace.

I'm paying £900 a year now on the Type R which is group 17 insurance.

The S3 and R32 are group 18. Not gonna be alot different.
