I have just taken a look at the TfL Journey Planner, sticking my own travel details in to see whether there was a stand out recommended route for those arriving in London at Waterloo.  And the following message popped up:

TRAVELLING TO SEE SWINDON TOWN FC VS CHESTERFIELD FC AT WEMBLEY STADIUM ON SUNDAY 25 MARCH?

Engineering work is taking place on the Bakerloo line between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone, and on the London Overground network between Euston and Watford Junction. Swindon Town FC supporters arriving at Paddington travelling to the match at Wembley Stadium are advised to use eastbound Bakerloo, Hammersmith & City or Circle line services to Baker Street, and change there for Northbound Jubilee or Metropolitan line services to Wembley Park station.

Edit: All of which means, I would imagine, that everyone (ie ourselves and Chesterfield) is going to be funnelled through either Baker Street (underground) or Marylebone (overground).  I would allow plenty of time and be prepared for a squeeze.

For those travelling on the Chiltern line, some timetables changes for Sunday are here >

All trains now seem to stop at Wembley, which I think is a sensible idea.

And Groupsave from Bicester - four for about forty quid is an even better one.

looks like there are 5 trains between 08.56 and 09.51 from Swindon. I'll be on one of the later ones and hope most people want to go early leaving some space on the later ones. will only be having a few pints pre match then hitting it hard after so in no rush to get there early.

Or get off at Stonebridge Park and walk to Wembley.

Sorry if this sounds really basic, but if I get to marylebone at 12, what time am I looking at getting to the ground?

9 minutes (or 2 hours if you go to the pub)

Ok Scrap that. Can get tickets from bath to paddington for £27. Downside being i've got to break up the journey into bath-didcot, didcot ealing, ealing paddington. And it means getting the coach (fucking coach) from bath at 7 in the morning.

Fairly confident i'll be able to stay on the train from swindon to paddington without having to change though. It will be rammed.
