Title: Barbers & Hairdressers

None of us know how long Barbers & Hairdessers will be closed for but imagine how busy they will be when they eventually open for business again

I think more or less every business is going to have huge footfall when it all gets going again.

Got my hair cut at the barber the week before last, so I'm good for at least 3 months!

I’m at the opposite end. I was going to get my haircut when all this kicked off so I’m going to have very unkempt hair at the end of this! Ah well, a change is as good as anything :)

I haven't had the need to go to a barbers in 25 years, I shave mine to the skin once every 3 days, but not that extreme is needed or wanted by most (HerthaB excepted!) buy clippers and do it yourself, easy.

Not the same model, but one of the best investments I've ever made. My hairstyle also doesn't require much skill to maintain.

That reminds me, I need a trim. And the colour's all washed out.

I'm with you. Wet shave every 3 days. Only minus is the frequent cuts that goes with it. Electric shavers give me a bad rash or I'd use one of those.

All these shaven heads, and probably the reason why we find it so intimidating visiting the County Ground !

Good to see Vyvyan Bastard on here, he loves his lower league footy. Once he sat in front of me at Gillingham's open rickety away end, a winter mid-weeker and hammering it down it was. The stewards recognised him and asked if he'd like to move to a seat under cover. "Only if they can all come with me" he said. Alan Gow then scored with a screamer and he jumped around like the lunatic we all know and love !

I do think people are slightly over reacting.  It is potentially only 3 weeks without a haircut.  Maybe when it get to 6 weeks I'll start worrying.  Even then I'll just tie my lustrous locks back and pretend Im 18 again.

Hate to be a Debbie downer mate but we're looking at least to the end of June, potentially September before anything "normal" of sorts returns.

Did you manage to get sorted btw?

Well everything seems to be being rescheduled for September the 5th.  Government seems to have come through for me at the least, with the 3 months for self employed at 80% so I should be ok.  June is a long time to wait though.  Ive got to get onto UC.

Ill just be bored out of my head but most people will be facing the same.  Ive volunteered for the NHS.  So hopefully that'll keep me going.

Appreciate you asking though mate!

Likewise, I did wonder but always nice to know someone has considered you. It's big changes for a lot of people but glad you should be alright. Personally I'm currently in discussion with a business consultant to see if it's worth me just suspending things as my situation is a little different to your own. Still had booked work cancelled but I wasn't reliant on those contracts. Had it been 6 months later, things may have been more difficult.

Going onwards my belief is, with this Socialist leaning approach, I think it will be difficult for any Government to go back to the previous way. At least not the same as it was. We've essentially become a Socialist state...under a Conservative gov to boot.

The political landscape will be a lot different from here on in. Going on just how he's handled things so far, I wouldn't mind seeing Sunak stepping up as PM once this has all settled. He does come across a lot calmer and more measured than well...the rest of them.

As Terry Pratchett said - We live in interesting times.

No more faffing about going to a barber and then waiting for my turn. I just get the misses to go over the sides once a week or so and I'm done.

Same here,  bought some a few years ago,  never used them until a couple of weeks ago, still in the bag I bought them in,  £12.99 still on the box, cost covered in 2 trims !!,   Bollocks to the barbers now,  didn't realise how easy it was.

The lockdown has meant that my hair has grown longer than I have probably ever had it - i'm a pretty boring short back and sides and neat on top kind of guy - however I think I am going to carry on with the longer hair experiment even after the barbers have opened. Not to the levels of David Seamen mind you!!

I lived in Luxembourg for 9 years and a haircut there was 20-30 Euro and so I made sure that I only ever had my haircut in the UK, usually at a barbers in Wantage where I had to pay a skinny diver for the privelage.

Its £13 (I pay £15) at my local barbers in London fwiw.

Many tutorials on YouTube! Depending on how long the back is start with the longest guard on the clipper and work down in size depending on how you like it. Use a second mirror to see what you are doing and only go up to where the curve starts

Same as, my missus did mine, went a bit Baldrick over the ears first time a few weeks back, but I had the second iteration done at the weekend and it was OK. She isn't going to be giving up the day job to open up a chain of salons any time soon, but it's good enough for lockdown.

£35 for hair and beard, every 3-4 weeks for me. I think that's about mid-range. It's 45-60 mins of someone's time and there's no chance I'd expect someone to do that for much less when you consider costs too.

No 1 all over as temporary measure right now.

The epitomé of Reg's reference to 'something for the weekend, Sir?'

I'm not sure though, it was either a roaring success or a non starter. The same sign was in the window from when we moved there and was definitely still there about a year ago (about 27 years). Pretty certain it was there before us too but time has perished the advert for sex toys; likely the state of which the Black Mamba is in too.

It is the Town running joke "just nipping to Ivans for a...haircut"  :soapy tit wank:

I've not been to a barber or hairdresser in many a year but this has jogged my memory of my younger days. School mates and I would go together after school to get our haircuts. If we were skint we'd go to Brian's on Ferndale rd as he was cheap but not very good. I went there twice I think when I'd spend the extra money my mum had given me on fags or sweets. Wayne's bottom of Vic hill or Ian's on commercial rd were the more regular ones where we'd spend our time giggling at each other in the mirror as we waited our turn.

If you knew some of the characters in my town...you'd have no surprise. Class doesn't tend to drip off people in a North Mids (Derbys/Notts border) town. Openly frank and honest? Buckets of that.

Still, minus barbers selling sex toys (not on the side but visibly on the side) the story is similar up and down the country; every town has it's "characters"

Yes very true but sadly diminishing with the politically correct society we're all part of

Oh there are still characters around there. Seem to reproduce at a rate of knots too. Sometimes the diminishing element isn't a bad thing but I do get your point.

I'm a bit skint, but if you all chuck in a few quid to the charity she's doing the run for, I'll let Fred Elliot's daughter cut my hair.

Or axs after losing a bet that time.

Lopped all my hair off twice. The Tef was responsible both times. Cunts.
