Title: BBC SPOTY
Post by: Abrahammer on Sunday, December 16, 2012, 18:25:18
Got to be Wiggins surely?

Winning the TDF on its own is a greater achievement than anything any of the others did, chuck in a gold and its a no brainer for me.

Probably one of the most difficult ones to call from recent years due to the Olympics, but it'll be a travesty if Wiggins doesn't win.

If he doesn't, then it has to be Hoy.

Two cyclists winning two years on the trot will be a great achievement for the sport.

It's a shame that this year there are a number of worthy winners.  Some years it's a struggle to think of one!

Wiggins I would say, but Murray has a big following, so could sneak it.

Wiggins or Murray for me... not sure who the public will go for though, maybe Ennis or Farah?

Title: Re: BBC SPOTY
Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, December 16, 2012, 20:15:23
I'd go for Ellie Simmonds myself.

Sure winning the TDF is an achievement, but not so much when you're paid £2m a year, needed a team of other cyclists sacrificing themselves for you and having the most extensive support team in the sport. Same for Ennis, Farah and Murray.

Ellie winning a gold was one of the moments of the olympics for me, it actually meant something to her. Most of the others in the running had more of a thank fuck I've won and not fucked it up again response.

If it was simply based on sporting achievement it would have to be Wiggins.

To achieve something that no other Brit has ever done & then win Olympic Gold a couple of weeks later.

However, if its based on personal achievement then one of the athletes from the Paralympics should win.

Gotta be Wiggo though..

Was disappointed that Sarah Storey got as few votes as she did, to have done it in swimming and now cycling is a great achievement, and to get top 5 in womans pro national champs was great!

The whole event was just a little too corporate for my liking, all the music and that, what has that Sandi woman got on the BBC, they roll her out on everything at the moment.

Couple of observations:

Cath Wiggins never smiled once!
Beckham even after all this time looks so self concious!
The handover of the trophy between Lennox Lewis and Murray was funny.
I wasn't aware that Coe had arranged the entire olympics on his own - fair play to the guy!

'The French know it' I think you may have sadly illustrated your complete lack of knowledge of cycling, real life, the universe and everything there.

The comments from the French in the olympics related to the track cycling and the idea (promoted by a sarcastic remark from one GB rider) that our wheels were rounder than theirs. Particularly funny as our wheels are made by mavic, who as you will no doubt be aware are a French company! However this doesn't really have relevance to Wiggins as he didn't ride the track in London.

Or do you mean the TdF where the French loved Wiggins as he spoke to them fluently in their language, had some charcater and most importantly (especially after whats happened subsequently) was not American.

This stuff was funny in a couple of threads, but when it starts to hijack other ones, it's just bloody annoying.

Maybe if you spent more time seeking a job rather than venting at Bradley Wiggins and worshiping lizard overlords you could afford better than tesco's lager and 9p steaks.

It is being held in the anarchist club, which prevails in every disillusioned man's heart, those who have been dispoccesed, those who scrape for an existence, this is our party, all welcome to join, we will smash this joint up, I will terrorize the House of Parliament, come and get me Policed twats. I know a guy in the Met Police, corrupt to the core

If I post something in relation to SPOTY, will I now be hijacking this thread?

Fuck it, I don't care what that cunt Doss Toy Fucking Evsky might think.

Wiggo? Right fucking result!

The look of horor on the face of Mrs Wiggins when she saw Susan hand him a microphone was priceless :D

To be honest though, any one of the 12 would have been a worthy winner. A very good short list this year.

I think Doss has too much time on their hands. Be interesting to see him trying to "educate" some of the locals tonight.  :)

Wiggo was a deserved winner and quite rightly so after the debacle of Ryan Giggs and Zara Phillips.

I think they should have all got some sort of award as they are all legends.

How much do you pay a month for your internet/internet cafe?

Can I suggest if you are struggling for cash that this might be the first luxury that you live without?

Although I'm sure this guy is Spacey or Ben trying to liven this bollocks part of this place up.

This bloke reminds me of all the fucktards that audition for X Factor, or Britain's got Talent: you laugh but a part of you feels guilty. It's like mocking the afflicted.

Lord know what might happen when the schools break up later this week
