Only know basics

Open gates at 11:45am

Jeremy Wray opens event @ 12:30pm

I don't think the bands come out to later 4ish & I think the event closes around 7pm

Aah..but they can drag a little more out of us before the doors close for two months...

I am being a little cynical here as it has been a magnificent season and I am happy to take my wife and kids to the event - see you all later..

There just wasn't enough there to keep people entertained. If you didn't like the music then the choice was look at the new shirt, buy a pie or visit the portaloo.

It was a godd idea, just could have done with a better, condensed line-up. Paolo singing 'Dancing in the Moonlight was brilliant - i left after that.

Well I quite enjoyed the last couple of hours, because by that point I was pissed and the music was good.  Paolo singing with Toploader was absolutely priceless - how many football managers would ever do that?

It was a shame only a few of the players ventured out to mingle and have photos taken with us mere mortals that weren't in the VIP tent!

Spot on. I bought tickets, but when I found out the schedule I decided to give it a miss. I though it would've been along the same lines as the open day, with things for kids, stalls, games, etc.

Exactly. It was supposed to be about fans celebrating with the team, not coporate sponsors. - Although I did  end up having a good day purely because of Di Canio singing with Toploader  :D

Not sure, but totally agree with you.  All the players and families, board and various other people were in there.  My dad seemed to think tickets for the vip tent were £35.  I assume that might have involved a meal?

We did wander in right at the end when 'security' weren't bothered and my son had a couple of photos taken with players still in there.

Does anybody actually care how good he was? The point is the league-winning manager just got up and did karaoke live in front of 5000 people, backed by the band who topped the charts with it.

Of course, Wilder would have done a much better job.

If you assume the object was anything to do with ordinary fans celebrating promotion then yes possibly. But if you go on the working assumption that it's a combination of what the club have actually said publicly about it, that it was a trial run for resuming summer concerts on the pitch a la Elton John and Bryan Adams, and yet another chance of "monetizing" what would otherwise be ordinary fans just enjoying promotion without any potential for squeezing those last few extra coins, then you have to say it's met its objectives splendidly. Whether it meets the criteria most of us would regard as a good way to celebrate promotion is immaterial. 8 quid a burger anyone?

Considering the amount of money that the board have spent gaining us promotion I for one do not blame them if there were ulterior motives.
I chose not to attend as I have done my bit by attending the vast majority of games this season and did my celebrating last week and at Bradford, however, I am sure that those that chose to go thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the "commercialism" of the day.

And the food/drink was reasonably priced

Title: Re: Party on the Pitch
Post by: pauld on Monday, May 7, 2012, 09:12:49
Didn't go myself, the missus took the kids and that was what she reported back. Kids had a perfectly nice time and the players they met were brilliant with them but they didn't stay that long because, as others have commented, once you'd paid your fiver to have your photo taken with the cup there wasn't a lot on offer, unlike the fun days they've done previously which have been really good. And it was she who said the only food on offer was a PieMinister (I think from what she described) tent and a "posh burger van" (?) doing burgers at 8 quid a shot. Maybe there were kiosks open and she missed them?

She came home saying it was OK, but (for example) they couldn't hear what was being said on stage by the players, the sound and/or video broke down when they were showing Goal of the Season, and they couldn't get anywhere near enough the players doing the Skills competition to see it.

Like I say, they had a perfectly nice time, just sounds like an opportunity missed to me, all in all. But apologies for having the temerity to suggest that.

Title: Re: Party on the Pitch
Post by: Arnold.J.Rimmer on Monday, May 7, 2012, 09:15:24
It was free entry to season ticket holders. If you didn't like paying £8 quid for a burger or whatever the price was ( I'm saw the queue and didn't bother) then tesco and burger king were 2 minutes walk away.
Not sure why people are moaning about a free event

Ha, that was one of the things my missus actually thought was really good - she said the players were great with the kids and happy to sign shirts, chat to them a bit etc. I'm starting to wonder if she went to a different event!

Title: Re: Party on the Pitch
Post by: pauld on Monday, May 7, 2012, 09:19:06
It might not be intentional as he is a nice chap but I do sometimes get the impression that paul thinks that most of us are a bit thick, cetainly beneath his level of thinking.
Eh? Not sure where you got that idea from.
Quote
Of course having a 'party' over a bus parade generates more revenue. Who cares if the club are exploring their options in regards to extra non-sport related revenue?
Not me - I'd positively advocate it and it was one of the things that I slated the Wills/Diamandis regime for not doing properly. It just sounded like this wasn't terribly well thought out or executed. That was all. But really, it's a very minor thing. I'll shush now.

i didn't go, no one i know went and fuck being there on my own!

they must have organised this event at somewhat short notice and it would have been easier for them to have organised an open top bus, so fair play. by the sounds of it they shown a bit of inexperience at putting on these events thats all.

looking at the schedule, there's no way it should have lasted as long as it did. but how much can you complain about a free event.

Lightning seeds were pretty good, even did 3 lions. I managed to get a few people singing Swindons going up instead of footballs coming home.

I don't think there was enough there for a full 7 hour day. Luckily we went for a piss up so it worked quite well in the end.

As others have said, if we were doing it again make the running time shorter, ditch the shit 'VIP section', have a few more things to do.

For a free event I thought it was pretty decent for a first run.

I thought it was a pretty decent day out, especially for the price !

Yes it was a bit drawn-out and their could've been a few more stands and things to do - but hey with the Winners open, it was perfect for escaping the bits you didnt want to see. :pint:

Frank Cinelli tried hard and was ok, not impressed by Toploader apart from Paolo's appearance - top man - how many other managers can you imagine doing that !

Thought the Lightening Seeds were great, took ages to get the sound system to their sataisfaction - but well worth the wait

Best thing was being able to have a kickabout on the hallowed turf - my nipper really enjoyed it !

Well done Swindon Town for attempting the day - bigger and better next time !

What was the "Goal of the Season" ?

How do you not know what she looks like, she almost a celebrity around these parts!  She now hangs out with the likes of Max Rushden, Johnny Wilkes and Ben Shepherd.

If you'd said Willie Rushden, John Wilkes Booth and one of the shepherds from the bible, I'd have well impressed.

Lightning Seeds for free (thought they were excellent), Beers, Pie etc, PDC singing (I think  :hmmm:) what's not to like ? Shame it seemed a relatively small turnout.

It was a good day, but not as good as I imagined it to be to be quite honest. It was a long loooong day - thought it was more kids orientated which is fair enough. Highlight of course was Paolo Singing & getting my pic with Don Rogers, went home just after that. Did Paolo do his message???

Now you come to mention it, I don't think he did unless I missed it?  I don't remember him being on stage again after he sung with Toploader.

Just going through some more of the pics from yesterday and found this one.  It does look like McCormack is checking out her behind.

My highlights other than Paolo singing amounted to a tasty Pie Minister offering, an even tastier girl with Mark Scott, and just being on the actual turf (sad, I know!). Think they'd have learnt enough through yesterday to put on better events in the future.

My sister (in Swindon) got this email through on Friday. I'm guessing the club knew ticket sales were poor so had to try to drum up some business.

Quote
Afternoon All,

After a great season Swindon Town Football Club would like to invite you to our end of season party taken place this Sunday.
With the full team, management and board present you are able to purchase tickets to be part of a great day.

Special moments include:
Q&A with Paolo
Quiz and Entertainment
Opportunity to have your photo taken with the League Two Trophy
Gold Package VIP is available at £70
Silver Package VIP is available at £25
Standard entry £10 Adults / £5 concessions

Tickets are available on the day, we look forward to seeing you

All the best

Not being a football fan she didn't really know quite what it was all about, she thought it was some kind of corporate thingamybob she had been invited to in a business capacity. No mention of the bands either, I expect a few people would have been happy to pay a tenner to watch the lightening seeds..... shame they didn't think to mention the biggest booking of the night.

I've heard no mention of the lightening seeds, had everybody gone by then?

They were the only reason I went! Always liked them and never seen them live, I really enjoyed them and thought they were very professional (shame about the sound problems at the start) but they were kind of wasted on this event really.  I guess a lot of people were waiting to hear "3 lions" (which personally I think is one of their weaker efforts) and didn't know much else.

Would happily have paid to see them as a standalone band in Swindon, so consider it a real bargain.

And Pieminister are lovely, got their pie cookbook for Christmas and it never lets me down!

It was a good event as has been mentioed the breaks between events were too long, but I expect htey made a few quid, the queue for the trophy pics was endless by the seems of it and it looked as if it was a decent photo being taken rather than a quick rush job.

Found it ammusing at the start the sound and video were poor obviousy did no checks before the event started.

Hopefully they will lean from this and if they schoose to do one again will improve but for a free event we cant grumble.

Oh and PaulD I saw your Mrs and was looking about for you, didn't like to distract her incase she didn't remember me which would have been embarrasing, how could you not cancel your plans to celebrate Paolo's achievments  - any chance of you attending a game again soon ?

I thought the day was pretty good, as others have said there could've been a bit more on till fill the gaps, but i popped into the legends and watched the footie. good turn out though and it was something a bit differnt which is always a plus. if diamond mike was still 'ere would've he have done something like this?
