Title: Sandwiches... Post by: Nijholts Nuts on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 13:51:10 This thread is about sandwiches, they are my favourite food and can make or even break my day. I am passionate about what goes into the making of certain sandwiches at certain times as I feel there are certain fillings for certain moods and events.
To kick start some conversation, Ill make a hopefully controversial statement. 'Picalilly is a GOOD and TASTY additive to a ham and cheese sandwich, it can also be eaten out the jar on its own with a tea spoon' Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Arriba on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 13:54:30 so it's a statement about how nice picalilly is,not a sandwich thread.

Why don't you try corned beef haassshhhhhh! Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Miles Mayhem on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 15:06:30 its not just the filling that can make or break a sandwich. Im going to have to say it must be a thin french baguette filled with parma ham, rocket, sun dried tomatoes pesto and mozzarella.

Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: woolster on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 19:02:46 oh it does. with you all the way on that one, also its just as important to select the correct bread, i like a bloomer, not keen on baguettes as i find they some how take away the taste of the filling, and it seems to take ages trolling through them :Dbacon, premium sausage, egg and mushrooms in thick cut white bread with brown sauce. Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 21:08:41 Corned beef. Haha!Even Buckingham palace has corned beef. I had a Brie de Meaux, pesto and rocket sandwich today. Sounded good when I ordered it, and was indeed rather tasty, but lacked something. Maybe a bit of tomato would have done the trick? Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: wiggy on Sunday, July 4, 2010, 21:11:52 Corned beef. Even Buckingham palace has corned beef. For the ultimate corned beef sandwich, try it with some sliced pickled onions (big home made ones though, not the pissy little silverskin things). Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: china red on Monday, July 5, 2010, 01:58:36 Bread, Marg, bit of ketchup and a nice big hot sausage roll dumped in the middle of it. The wife brought me ten big sausage rolls back from Hong Kong last week and they were gone in a couple of days. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: yeo on Monday, July 5, 2010, 06:35:06 I like a Mash Potatoe and Stew Sandwich.

Sounded good when I ordered it, and was indeed rather tasty, but lacked something. Maybe a bit of tomato would have done the trick? Whack in some parma ham, or some other similar salty cured ham to give it some flavour, unless you're one of these gay veggie types too? If you are, I would suggest onion marmalade. Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: china red on Monday, July 5, 2010, 09:29:58 this may sound strange but try it, mash up some farleys rusks with milk until paste like, then spread it on your bread, fantastic. Each to their own and all but how did you discover this delicacy? Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Monday, July 5, 2010, 10:07:24 i didnt i was just hoping someone would be that fucking stupid they might try it :)
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Ginginho on Monday, July 5, 2010, 10:25:53 Well, you may laugh, but I tried it, and it was fucking lovely, so thanks for the culinary tip!

Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Doore on Monday, July 5, 2010, 21:09:54 Brown bread, hot bacon and mushrooms (no sauce). No sauce? Fucking tragedy that. Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: 4D on Monday, July 5, 2010, 21:13:52 Don't get me wrong I like sauce, but that combo doesn't need it.....you can appreciate the flavours more.
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: nochee on Monday, July 5, 2010, 21:16:58 Brown bread, hot bacon and mushrooms (no sauce). as much as I like brown bread it should never be anywhere near bacon let alone combined with it. A bacon sandwich needs to be made with good old fashioned hearty White bread. And any fool knows that it needs sauce, red or brown, it makes no difference. A bacon sandwich without sauce is like a Sunday roast without gravy. Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: 4D on Monday, July 5, 2010, 21:24:08 Tasty bacon does not need sauce
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Nijholts Nuts on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 07:18:56 A bacon sandwich without sauce is like a Sunday roast without gravy. Gravy = :puke:Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Miles Mayhem on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 07:32:04 Gravy = :puke: How can you not like gravy? You have a dry roast? My god what is the world coming to Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: BANGKOK RED on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 07:38:13 Anybody who doesn't like gravy should not be allowed to have food.
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 07:41:09 I often have a dry roast. I don't always enjoy gravy so sometimes choose not to have it. I didn't have it at all until in to my 20's.
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, 07:48:23 Depends what the consistency of the gravy is. It needs to be thick. If it's like dishwater (like my mother-in-law's) then I'd prefer not to have any gravy at all.
Title: Re: Sandwiches... Post by: One F In Fitton on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 15:13:27 My Gramp used to have his roasts dry, bless him....
For when I'm in a hurry, Walls micro-sausages in-between 2 slices of toast, with ketchup - fucking lovely. One that I can't be arsed to make, but usually buy when I see it, is tuna nicoise in a ciabbata roll - the combination of boiled-egg, tuna, olives, capers....want one now. Title: Re: Sandwiches...
