To Kill a Mockingbird

I don't see it, really. All the characters are wholly one dimensional with one exception and the moral message is so blindingly obviously it's painful to read.

And we had to 'study' it in English which is a sure-fire way to ruin any book.

who do you think you are.

has there ever been a more cuntish start to a programme?

I hate the way they stroll up to the camera looking quizzical, it makes me want to smash the telly up. David Mitchell has disappointed me, his relentless march towards TV ubiquity and therefore an inevitable public backlash continues apace. Shame as he is so funny.

I couldnt give a fuck that smack head off Big Brother's grandad knew Dreyfuss, or that Chris Moyles is (unsurprisingly) related to a load of micks who lived in a ditch. Its worth watching just to get the blood pressure up though. There hasnt been a good one since Vic Reeves and his humdrum but eccentric family

Well I love Withnail & I and To Kill a Mockingbird.  The first time I read the book I was studying for GCSE (like just about everyone else) and didn't think too much of it.  Then I re-read it years later in my 20s and was blown away.  One dimensional?  I think we must all see different things.

Definitely!! It is so annoying these gay blokes can play up to some stereotype and that gets them fame.

Seems that people like a gay man who is uber camp and makes jokes about gay sex constantly. Non-camp gay guys don't seem to get on TV, but they are out there. Is this something to do with a lot of people not liking the fact gay guys could act and look similar to straight guys?

Also definitely agree with Clarkson, Friends and Mighty Boosh. All massively overated. Infact they all annoy me.  >:(

I think the inbetweeners is funny. I like it. However some people seem to think its better than it is. Possibly cos there aren't any other really good comedies on TV right now. At least Peep Show has a new series out soon. They're doing a series 3 of Gavin and Stacey too.

Out of interest how long ago was that Rich?

I was never a huge fan but in the past decade it’s really improved on all fronts.

My list:

Kurt Cuntbaine – As Roy Walker would say he was good but he wasn’t great.  He’s not the messiah, he’s not a musical genius he was a charismatic junkie that a sound to the mainstream and was successful.  Deservedly successful but just don’t make him out to be a musical genius.  CUNTS

The Office – Great and hugely funny series but some people make it out to be the defining moment of comedy gold plus anyone that quotes from it or does that fucking dance needs their anus ripping round to their gootch.

Adam Sandler – Not remotely funny in a puerile or slapstick way.

Apple enthusiasts – Go into any Apple store and you will see a breed of people not all nerds that frequent the premises to simply “hang out”.  Now I had an iPhone and iPod and understand the delights of the Apple Mac.  I even appreciate the quality of Apple accessories but I cannot fathom what soul would ever want to simply hang out there.  I mean what the fuck do you look after an hour?

I've seen Muse on one of their tours. You've gotta say their songs are good musically but imo its hard to connect with the songs cos its not clear what hes singing about (altho you could say the same for other bands inc Nirvana and Oasis). Also, the pompus operatic style of Muse isn't always that likeable.

Fully agree with Chris Moyles.  I have never known anyone with so little to say who likes the the sound of their own voice so much. If there is a more annoying cunt on any form of media (with such high listening figures and hype) I would like to know about it. In his early days everything he did was a blatent rip off of Chris Evans. I then swithced off.
Chris Moyles - utter cunt..and quite frankly anyone who thinks hes is funny, is simple.

Moyles is one of very few daytime djs who is genuinely funny. The only others were Mark and Lard. Have you heard some of the alternatives? All local DJs are incredibly boring and play terrible music and radio 2 is painfully dull. By the way Jimmy_onions I would bet everything I own I'm more intelligent than you and I think "hes is funny" [sic].

I dont disagree that local radio djs are almost without exception dismal, (Heart for example should be shut down with immediate effect on the basis of it being utter vacuous drivel), however, I still maintain Molyes is the biggest cunt. Mostly down to his high opinion of himself.

Peter Kay. Worshipped by many for his unoriginal observational humour but he does it with a regional accent so that makes it funny.

His post-Phoenix Nights proves he is a one trick pony who has suffered since falling out with his former co-writers.

I just don't like you saying anyone who finds he's funny is simple when it isn't true at all. I don't think he has a high opinion himself to be honest, most of the stuff he says on the radio is tongue in cheek and he's quite self-deprecating a lot of the time. The whole "saviour of radio one" thing is obviously not serious.

Take That? not exactly revered are they?
They shouldn't be but the amount of people who seem to think they have some talent is ridiculously high for some reason.

Champagne - nice enough but over rated and over priced.
Gary Linekar - turned into an arse post playing days.

I think you took that in completely the wrong way, it wasn't meant in an arrogant way at all, just answering a question about whether he knew anything about his ancestors. That programme was very interesting by the way. It's clear if you listen to him a lot that he doesn't really consider himself famous, most of his friends aren't celebrities and anything egotistical he says is never serious. A lot of his humour is very subtle and I think a lot of people take him way too seriously, not realising when he's being ironic or mocking himself and the newspaper perception of him.

It's nice how time has shown I was absolutely spot on about Crouch. When he went to Liverpool I was almost the only one who thought £7m was a bargain when the overwhelming opinion was Crouch was "A gangly streak of piss. Makes Carlton Palmer look like Ronaldo. Wouldn't wish him on Wales". Now, four years later, he's continued to score about a goal every 3 games in the premiership, 16 goals in 34 games for England, Liverpool made a £4m profit and several clubs are interested at £12m even now he's 28. Shows how right I was.

Liverpool to Pompey and now to Fulham. If he were in proper employment that would be like being a CEO of a succesful company, getting sacked and being hired as a dustbin lorry driver and then resigning to muck out elephants at a zoo.

Moyles is alright.

When he first hit radio one on the late night slot and in the first year or so of his afternoon slot he had some genuinely riotous moments.

That said I think he quickly went a bit “Chris Evans” and started believing his own puff and piss a little too much and a lot of what was great about his show went out the window.

He’s not a comedian by any stretch and I find his interviewing cringe worthy.  He panders to one and all and even by my low standards when he talks to female guests I need a bleach shower it’s that grotty.

i've always liked him as a player, but he aint all that and never has been.spurs have now pulled out of buying him.
dunno what you were right about as his career has gone backwards.the sorry state of englands striker options is why he features
i reckon he'll go to fullham
Spurs haven't pulled out. Harry wants to sign him but the chairman isn't sure as they already have several strikers, they know Portsmouth need the money and are probably hoping to get him for slightly less. Hopefully they will just sell Darren Bent so they can get him as Crouch is a lot better than he is.

Going from a value of £2m to £12m in 5 years is hardly a career going backwards, not sure what you mean there. The papers are all reporting that Liverpool are interested in bringing him back now too.

Liverpool to Pompey and now to Fulham. If he were in proper employment that would be like being a CEO of a succesful company, getting sacked and being hired as a dustbin lorry driver and then resigning to muck out elephants at a zoo.

Yeah you'd be right if mucking out elephants paid 5 times as much as being a CEO. As it doesn't this makes you seem very stupid. You were wrong about him, get over it.

I have no problems with Crouch but to say he is 'a lot better' than Bent is a bit silly, if Bent goes somewhere where he will be first choice he will be among the top scorers in the league if last years totals are anything to go by, Crouch won't get near that again I don't think.

Obviously they're different and Crouch is more your hold up and play off kind of fellow so merely comparing by no. of goals scored is wrong I know but for similar prices Bent is worth it more than Crouch.

Talking of dj's, on the whole bbC R6 is pretty good with an excellent mix of music....George Lamb on the other hand is another thoroughly irritating gobshite.
George, you wanker...R6 is all about the music, not the djs, get rid of your sycophantic friends, shut the fuck up and play a record.

Carys Matthews does my head in a bit, she's been filling in for Nemone. Luckily Lauren Laverne has been sitting in for her the last few days, so that's not been too bad.

The Reading Festival.

Full of posh kids given tickets by mummy and daddy for getting a C in GCSE mathematics.

My Reading Festival experience was disappointing :)

Bent's scoring record in the premiership has been pretty similar to Crouch so far, around a goal every 3 games. Last year he scored 17 in 41 games and Crouch 16 in 41 games for a worse side. He also doesn't have any international goals and isn't proven in the champions league like Crouch, so he's not even a better goalscorer. As an all round player though Crouch contributes a lot more and I definitely think he's a better buy for £12m, as Sunderland seem to agree. Bent's been disappointing at Spurs and if they do sell him it will probably be for a loss.

BWB puts his points across more articulately that most of you apes, even if I don't always agree with him. I guess that's why some of you get so frustrated, you disagree with him but you don't have a good enough grasp of language to communicate why.

Thanks flammable. The whole idea of this thread was to liven things up anyway so I'm not sure what offended DRS or anyone. Everyone should know I'm a Crouch fan already, although I realise you'd have more chance of getting a blowjob from the pope than convincing some people that's he's good so I don't know why I bother really. Aside from that I just disagreed with a couple of people about Moyles, I can understand why people don't like him but you have to compare him to his competition and they are almost all shite so I do think he's a better listen than most DJs and basically all the daytime ones that aren't on digital radio. If you want to call me a cunt for thinking that, go ahead but I'm obviously going to think you're a cunt for doing so.

yeah harry wants him,but doesn't think he's worht the money pompey want.bent and crouch are totally different players, but i dont think there is much between them in goals or quality.also i'd say going to pompey from liverpool is a backwards move, and thats why i said backwards previously.if he goes to spurs then he's hit rock bottom ;)

The way I understand it Harry thinks he's worth it but the chairman is not sure about £12m at 28. I agree that there's not that much between Bent and Crouch, saying he was a lot better may have been a slight exaggerration. I like Darren Bent and he was promising for a while, he just hasn't done that well at Spurs.

I don't think Liverpool to Portsmouth was a step backwards especially with the higher transfer fee, with Torres and other top strikers there Crouch wasn't going to play regularly whereas he would always play at Portsmouth and Redknapp was there and they've worked together a lot, it's definitely a step up from Southampton anyway. Spurs would be the pinnacle of his career of course.
