Title: Honda

Very very sad

How the hell are those poor families going to cope for 4 months ?

AND they have prohibited them from looking for alternative work

At least on saturday night swindon will be deluged with Taxi Drivers!

On a serious note, it's a shame but I know that a lot of Honda workers have already seeked out other work or taking the severancy money. If they are waiting to see what happens with their job then they either don't need the money or are a bit silly.

don't they get 80% pay though? It's a bit harsh that they're not allowed to find work during that time.

50%

Just spoke to my mate and basically he is going to loose equivilant to his mortgage payment for 4 months.

Poor bloke was nearly in tears

Although still not good, i think with other payments over the period it works out at 60% pay. Wasn't aware of the 'no other work' rule though

 Fuck me it's not that bad Fred...I used to talk to my late father about the great depression of the 30's....which basically spanned the decade and brought about WW2, followed by years of austerity, until the late 50's.

 You get on with it make the most of what you have and cut your cloth according to your means. In this case make the most of being time rich if not dosh rich...

Bad times indeed then! They've extended the voluntary redundancy window by a bit - anyone would think they wanted people to leave...!

So you're being paid 60% of what you're used to, which is probably not enough to cover your costs (given that most of us do not have the luxury of 40% take home pay as disposable income).  You can either sit around for 4 months watching Trisha or get out there and do something on the side that keeps the finances ticking over.

Of course Honda workers are going to try earning a little extra.  And the very best of luck to every one of them.  There but for the grace of God...

i,m more concerned about june when we are supposed to return,they said anything over 250hrs banked would mean we wouldn,t get paid for.By that time we are well over that does that mean when we go back we will have to work for nothing untill we,re under this ,it wasn,t made very clear there,s nothing to say they will even need us then, :cry: they,ve got us by the balls

Honda still have money though Johnny, therefore they can still pay and surely by law still have to pay you.

Contracts are signed for a reason mate, just go up to the Nip cunts and tell them that Swindon ain't in Japan innit.

Is the 50 or 60% their basic wage?

Might sound like a cunt, but they should base their mortgage/living around this wage then the bonuses they get are an extra...

60% of the pay is during April/May - Full basic pay is being paid during Feb/March as this will go up to the 250 hrs that are to be banked - The retrieval of the banked hours will be overtime, work 2 hrs overtime, it will reduce your minus hours owed to Honda.  Saruday working, not pay, hours reduce of the banked hours ....
No-one has mentioned that Honda is also writing off 120hrs which will not be used to be 'banked' So technically production staff are received full basic pay for 370hrs and only having to 'work' back 250hrs ....

Hindsight is a wonderful thing ay? How many people push things to the limit to buy the best place they can  - and indeed have been encouraged to do so?

Hope things pick up for all at Honda, I was unemployed for a while in the late 80's but that was a breeze as a single young man with no kids to support - very different situation for those with families...

I'm going to go and watch Black Hawk Down now :)

 Quite....conscript all the cunts under 40 and send them off to Bongo Bongo Land, with Prince Harry at the helm.

 Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!

 Damn straight

WW1 was the cause of WW2.

 Of course the aftermath of The Great War caused resentment in Germany, but  :hitler: would never have achieved power without the 30's depression.

True Reg. There were many factors that allowed the Nazis to seize power, WW! and the reccession to name but two. The German penchant for order and control also can't be underestimated.

My view on Honda is this....Honda as a company have stated that they dont want and wouldnt want any help from our government,they come to Swindon years ago and as a company have employed thousands which is good...but for me for such a massi ve name in the world what else have they done for Swindon,ime a Swindon  boy and i cant see no university,college,or place for youngsters backed by Honda.....fair play to them though because four months off work with at least some pay isnt to bad...if i dont work Monday i dont get payed,i dont like Honda,i didnt like Motorola,because firms like that just use Swindon for its workplace....i travel all over the place in my job and ive seen it all before....and believe me this is just the start....i have to side with Reg on this one..if i was at Honda i would feel that looking at other car firms and the way they have gone,then the guys and girls working there have been lucky....so far.

The problem is that car companies don't get any money from dealerships until the cars have left the forecourt. Honda don't sell cars like a high street chain store, they sell to a middle man aka the dealer. None of us really have any idea what price cuts the manufacturers are giving the dealers and what proportion of these cuts are being passed on to the consumer.

There are quite a few good offers for new cars aboiut though aren't there?
