Title: Ideas needed.
Post by: herthab on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 15:12:54
It's getting close to Christmas and I'm struggling for ideas. What would an 18 year old lad like as a present?

It used to be easy, a Swindon shirt, a few computer games, but now he's got his own money, anything like that he gets himself.

As far as I can tell, his main interests are going out on the piss and................well, that's about it really.

Looking to spend about £100.00.

Any ideas welcome.

That was the going rate in Rouge..

I went there once. Seems it's the only place open to drink at 4am. I think we might have been standing in the entrance hall though because there was only a few seats and a small overpriced bar.

I don't think he'd be impressed with his dad buying him skivvies for Christmas.

I didn't really want to do vouchers, I always think it's impersonal and a bit lazy.

You're talking mid week presumably, as Suju is open til 5 weekends.

Sadly Rouge is no more BB's impending nuptuals, seem to have robbed it of its cash flow.

Title: Re: Ideas needed.
Post by: Miss Angry on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 16:20:22
JFW what are you teaching these men?!?
I dont mean to be horrible but men know nothing about clothes or underwear, more so what each of us would wear and what they think we should wear! So i think thats a bad idea. However taking your girlfriend/wife shopping and paying for everything she chooses is a great idea!

Herthab - some nice aftershave is an idea. My brother is 21 i always buy him aftershave for xmas cos its something boys like but dont tend to go out n buy themselves but they still enjoy

Title: Re: Ideas needed.
Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 16:22:30
Maybe Im basing it too much on my own bloke as he is quite good at picking stuff (mind you he has had 8 years to find out what I like!!) or the fact I hint so heavily in the run up to Christmas that he cant help but get the right thing!!

She's hinted at a wii & wii fit.

Can you get Wii Fits down your way still? It's rare to see them in stock in the North East. We get alot requests for them at work and apparently it's my fault we don't have them.

Title: Re: Ideas needed.
Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 18:08:36
For anyone who wants a Wii for a present (seems everyone did last year) Blockbuster are doing them at £179.99, with Mario Kart and PES2009. We've got loads in stock but at that price I'd imagine they'll go quite quickly.

Title: Re: Ideas needed.
Post by: DV on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, 18:14:14
....and as I mention every time when games are mentioned lots of people dont think about Toys R Us and they usually have some stock.

If you are that desperate for one I can find one exactly when they will next be getting some in and get one put aside.

If he's not already got an iPod or similar, one of them (I'll avoid the religious flame war on which is better). If he has already got one, there's plenty of iPod dock devices around for 100 quid or under so he can turn it into a stereo in its own right. Or you can get a pretty decent DAB radio for 100 quid - might even be able to get one of them with the internet radio built in (they usually need wireless internet connection)

It'll probably end up being vouchers, which is a cop out.

Day out at Newbury Races in the restaurant bit can be had for around £40-£50 for one of the lesser days.  3 course decent meal, tote table service and a bar for the posh people.  Worked a treat for me last year with my brother and Dad so you could always ask someone to get another ticket for you and have day out together.

failing that, Vinopolis in London has Wine Tasting events for about the same price or for a few bob more you can find a local vineyard offering an overnight deal usually, with meal and tasting included.  The latter has the problem of not being much use for a few months.
