Yes, they need to rethink that. Couldn't hear a thing and for those whose loved ones were read out, it would have been important.
The woman who stands next to me lost her dad this season & she was upset she couldn't hear his name read out. Her dad used to stand behind us in the town end.

I'm really sure what is being applauded.

Their life. I believe it started when George Best died, and now there sems to be more minute's applause than minutes silence.

Partly because its virtually impossible to ruin it if a few people decide to boo or make noise during the minutes applause vs the minutes silence.

Yeah, exactly. Don't think it's even people booing most of the time, just the dribbling idiots that are unable to stand quietly for 60 seconds.

So it's ruined as people cannot hear names being read out instead. Both have their flaws i suppose.

Typical over the top italians. I prefer a good old British stolid minute of contemplation and respect rather than outward displays of emotion. Stiff upper lip and all that.

My mate lost his dad this season, and I could just hear his name, my mate couldn't, but I gave him a nudge at the appropriate moment. A minutes silence is a better, more dignified way to remember those we have lost.

There has also been a growth in meant silences turning into applause after a few seconds of quiet. A few start clapping, others look around in confusion and then the clapping grows.

My Dad's name was read out in 2011 when it was silence. However, Iris's name had been read out shortly before which generated impromptu singing from the town end. While I completely understand why this happened, I was disappointed not to be able to hear Dad's name on my phone recording. I think silence is the way forward rather than applause as I wouldn't want anyone to miss their loved ones name.

It can't be as bad as it is in the Town End, it is awful.

Rik Mayall has passed away.
For me the young ones was one of the best tv programmes ever made.
