Awful news, rip Rik.

Loved the new statesman, never seems to get aired. Sad

I lived around the corner from the college I attended. I'd often skive with mates to go home, smoke weed and watch the young ones. I had them all on tape. Great days.

  Sad  Sad

I first saw Rik at Glastonbury in a comedy tent....must have been early 80's.  He did a character called Kevin Turvey, which for some reason used to crease me up....so it was good to see him go on and create other stuff which I could relate to.

Young Ones, was like my life style about 15 years earlier....a bit anachronistic, but when the BBC staple was stuff like Terry and June, Wendy Craig domestic shite, and other twee middle class suburban fodder. A welcome relief.

Alan BStard....so well observed and still in a constituency near you.

Couldn't watch the Young Ones, disliked Bottom, thought he was superb as Flashheart. Appreciated the effect that he had on British comedy.

Very sad and at no age really. RIP

Couldn't stand the Young Ones or actually any comedy he was in. Strangely he did a few straight roles and was very good in them. He was a talent though.

Wasn't the Kevin Turvey character the one with the Birmingham accent he did on the BBC show "A Kick Up the Eighties"?

Edit:  Yes it was.  Great stuff!  Happy memories:

Fuck, loved him as a youngster, can't recall much since then. Think I also liked him as one of my uncles had a similar appearance and demeanour.

First saw him as Kevin Turvey doing a poem about "Theatre" was brilliant at the time as was the young ones which hasn't aged well but was ground breaking when I was a young lad.

Really sad news

According to some on here Im probably some sort of hysterical unbalanced gusher, but  I'm genuinely feeling really sad for the passing of this man who's comedy genius enriched my young life.

Getting old and seeing your heroes die is awful, but it definitely is preferable to the alternative.
