Was looking a while ago and you could get single tickets for £24 from Blackpool to Swindon on Sunday ahead of the Monday game. Left it too late so now it's £82.20 off peak return from Euston to Morecambe and a day trip only.

Going up this Saturday with the family for the week - the only downer is I have to miss the Rovers game in order to get there at a reasonable hour!  ::)

Check out a Euston to Lancaster off peak return, I am sure thats only about £75 and the return from lancaster - Morecambe (you will have to change in lancaster anyway is about 2-3 quid.

So now not going. Damn my tardyness in booking.

I think Mrs Batch may be correct...

However to be fair, after living up here on and off for around 10 years (Lancaster not Morecambe) I have still never been out in Morecambe, but everyone I have ever discussed it with concurs with the opinion of Mrs Batch.

Depends what you want, Lancaster is a good night out if you are young (like I no longer am) as there are two universities here and thus huge numbers of students. Blackpool is good if you want it interesting (check Funny Girls).

Just excited about the idea of seeing another Town shirt in town for first time since been here!

Don't worry I think it was a special or something - it is very pricey for Morecambe - but thats a very low bar to start with!

I assume I will be Ok with buying tickets on the gate, taking my father in law which will be interesting, will need to apologise for my language beforehand.

Anyone with any advise as to what time to set off from Swindon? With it being bank holiday and all I can imagine the M6 will be pretty crap between Birmingham and Stoke. Does anyone know what time the coaches are leaving the CG?

weather is fine, snow-wise. been up here for a few days with the family, as an excuse to see the game! But, it is damn cold and really windy! Popped down to Blackpool for a few hours, and it is even windier and colder there - everyone walking around with hats and gloves on! So, wrap up warm and don't plan on having a dip in the sea. but roads are perfect.

Its cold in Lancaster today, wind dropped right off but chilly. As Lancaster/Morecambe is on the coast we rarely get snow.

As for venue for a pre match pint I am local and I have no suggestions, the ground is in a funny part of Morecambe away from the town centre.

Quote
Fans' Fun Day for Good Friday

Fans' Club and Morecambe FC are pleased to say that we will be having a Fans' Fun day this coming Friday 6th April. The theme for the day is Italian/Mafia Beach Party. Come in whatever makes you look like Paolo Di Canio, bring your flags, balloons and bring the noise. During the game Christie will be handing out Easter Eggs to the little ones and there will be the ever popular half time "Open the Box" as well as another go at the Crossbar Challenge. We will also be looking for the best "Paolo pushes over the ref" impersonation so get practising. After the game from around 6.30 or so (so you can still watch the Man of the Match presentation and talk about the game) we'll be holding a fun quiz (pound per person in each team) with cash prize. So if you think your general knowledge stacks up, your Shrimps trivia is tops or you know your music come along. After the quiz we'll be having a few tunes from a DJ as well as the kind of quality beers and food we've come to expect at the Globe Arena. The banter will be turned to maximum so come and join in the fun.

They seem to get about 2,000ish home fans per game (a few less recently) with an average away following of about 200, but the pull of Paolo will add a few hundred to the home crowd I think making it about 2,200 home fans, if we can get 1,100 away fans then I think we will be about 33% of the attendance by my guestimate on the home crowd.

I would think we will get around 1,000 fans there tomorrow in a crowd of around 3,200.

Perhaps someone should take them up some Wembley Paolo masks, do it properly or not at all.

We've a terrible record against newly arrived from non-league sides on their own grounds, unless they're managed by Steve Evans...so Rushden and Diamonds, Dagenham and Redbridge, Macclesfield, Burton Albion, Cheltenham, Oxford, lost v the lot. In some cases this season, in others this season and a few others. A win would be a major surprise..

What about Wycombe, Accrington and Boston though Reg.

We'd never won at Underhill, never beaten D&R and beaten Cheltenham only once. We took 9 points off those three.

This season is throwing very few downers anda lot of uppers. I'm done with guessing based on history though.

It's a fair point about Wycombe, but it was a long time ago now....Boston were managed by Steve Evans, and Stanley, I regard as a league club, whose place was disgracefully taken in an early example of franchising. Anyway we didn't win at the Crown Ground on their return to the FL.

What was Christie Park has now got a bloody great big Sainsbury's on it!

Christie Park was their former ground; they moved to the Globe Area about 2 Seasons ago

Truly shocking. I can't believe it hasn't got more press coverage. This was an upset of epic proportions. QPR might have beaten Arsenal last week, Aldershot might have knocked West Ham out of the cup earlier in the year, but Swindon Town beating Morecambe away? Truly incredible. In years to come, everybody will remember where they were when plucky Swindon won at the Globe Arena. I will treasure this moment for ever.

It looks like some fans of Morecambe have seen in Paolo what we see in him, maybe he is finally winning over a few opposition fans, heres a couple of quotes from the Shrimpers Forum.

Quote
At first I though he was a mad hatter. But then I realised that he was constantly telling his subs how to do things if they got on. Showed a new perspective on the management game. Excellent.

Worth the entry fee alone.

Destined for greater things, probably sooner rather that later. Close season move?

Quote
In the first half he seemed to be giving a 5 min lecture on how to kick the ball he had his back towards the game and didn't watch any of it for a while as he talked to them.

I loved the way after every incident he would run back to the bench and get onto his assistant.

Been his assistant must be the worst job in football :soapy tit wank:

Quote
Thought Di Canio was pure box office today
God knows what he's like when they lose
One mistake for them and they get subbed and no handshake !
and at the end everyone gets a big hug especially Jimbo

Thought the funniest bit today was when he turns quickly and berates the 4th official about them being given offside
... why funny ? because he had his back to the action and wasnt even watching the incident at the time the whistle went as he was remonstrating with his own bench but re-acted totally to the noise of their fans !!

Very much a 'lone wolf' and his own man - but it obviously works for him so far

oh, and I would love to watch a Crawley v Swindon game !

I thought it was hilarious yesterday with Paul Benson celebrating the winning goal with SuperTed and other assorted superheroes. The Town Fans after the game on the open top double decker bus made me laugh out loud and singing 'We're top of the bus, We are Swindon, We're top of the bus'.

I am sure there will be more amusing tales come out over the weekend

My claim to fame, yesterday at Morecombe I went to the toilet and had Ironman one side and Superted the other side. Still even super heroes get taken short I suppose.

That was the london boys. The B&B they stayed at provided that to and from the ground.

Well the football weren't pretty but we got a much needed 3 points and i had a great time ! Morecambe a bit run down though and quite a few places closed down so ended up going out in Lancaster which weren't much better to be fair.

Its not that bad (nowhere near as bad as Morecambe), I have lived up here for 14 years (on and off) having been bought up near Witney and I would have no more concerns going out in Lancaster than there!

The thousands of students are both a positive and negative impact on the town!

Yep they have been trying to do them up since I have been here, but unlike most places the quayside in Lancaster isn't much used for pubs etc.

If that was Newcastle, it would be luxury apartments by now. I guess there isn't a market for that! I've been to a lot worse places anyway. Scariest I can remember as a lorry drivers mate when I was a kid is Bolton. Absolute hole.

Lived in Newcastle before came here and I agree, never understood why quay in Lancaster has never taken off.

I dislike Bolton intensely and have the pleasure of going through on the train everyday on way to work. A total hole and possibly the worst place in country to drive (except Reading!)
