Firstly, as has been mentioned most of us didn’t know about his signing till we saw the teamsheet Saturday. Despite all the ‘in the know’ about a defender training with us - no one provided a name...
That was a wise move by the club because Dion got to make his first impression on the pitch.
Secondly, Nile Ranger was a Premier League footballer, so much higher profile and automatically more newsworthy. LMc misdemeanour resulted in death so again a lot more newsworthy than ‘4th Division football convicted of assault’
Thirdly, I can only speak for myself here although I imagine there are others who were in the same boat. I’d never heard of him till he appeared on our team sheet and it wasn’t till I looked him up on the internet to find out who he was that I learned of his past behaviour.
Lastly and not really my place to say but isn’t the term assault a pretty loose one at best? Didn’t Adi Williams get done for assault whilst here because he stood on his Mrs foot whilst they were arguing supposedly allegedly possibly maybe
And Jamie Vincent

Seeing as we have some kind of form on the whole "players with issues" front. How's about we go after newly OOC Richard Keogh for next season? 33, career seemingly now over. Come and help STFC get promoted from L1 and into the Championship. Bow out on a high. Cheeky. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50242841

Also: " Keogh, 33, sustained knee ligament damage and was ruled out for up to 15 months after Tom Lawrence crashed into a lamppost last month." I've a hunch that he would not be much use to us.

If I were being serious then I meant an approach for next season (during the close season). Although, DV and yourself have been whooshed. I'm sure you'll both find a clever way to wriggle out of it Unlike Keogh.

I am sure the fact that he is a 33 year old player contracted until June 2021 who could be out for up to a year and as skipper was likely on high wags had absolutely nothing to do with the decision reached by the club.

He was the senior player, who knows if he egged them on, or even made them drive him.

I am sure the fact that he is a 33 year old player contracted until June 2021 who could be out for up to a year and as skipper was likely on high wags had absolutely nothing to do with the decision reached by the club. I believe they were making him take a wage cut (as part of his disciplinary), he refused so they've done him on gross misconduct. As you say, it is odd. They are all adults and this was technically outside of work so surely they are all responsible for their own actions? Potentially DCFC using Keogh as a scapegoat? With both Bennett and Lawrence seen as more future valued assets. He was the senior player, who knows if he egged them on, or even made them drive him.
All I can say to that is, Lawrence and Bennett are big enough boys. Peer pressure doesn't really cut it in court "but sir, *points* it was 'im wot made me do it, no lie." Plus, ultimately he could only make one of them drive him (Lawrence I believe). They were all pissed up (maybe more), thought they were above the law because of their "status" and refused a taxi (at the clubs expense) put on by DCFC. Their disciplinary by the club should pretty much have been equal. I would laugh my tits off if we ended up signing him end of next season.
