In October 14 I signed myself up for London West TM (May this year), then realised I'd probably never run 12 miles before in my life......so trained a bit gradually running from 1.5 to 13 odd miles, so in Jan I thought I'd have a crack at the Reading Half Marathon held in March, did that (very slowly
) and managed the Tough Mudder in just over 3.5 hours....!
My point is yes it's commercialised, but if I can do it, I reckon pretty much anyone can. Beware though you do get caught up in the "Hoo Rah" "hell yeah" stuff, but it's very well organised and a great crack and a real sense of achievement no matter how slow or what shape you are in.
Doing the Cirencester one in August, for my Mudder Legion head band.....!
Seriously, have a crack at it, just train a bit.......! Be aware running becomes addictive if you're not careful and it does hurt a bit...!
