Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 10:12:25 Run around. Jump over things. Crawl under things. Get muddy.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Nemo on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 10:24:29 My friends are doing it this year. It looks unpleasant, particularly the bit where they electrocute people for a giggle

Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 18:41:22 You should be ashamed of yourself entering a commercial copy cat event like that.
Why don't you do the original and best - TOUGH GUY http://www.toughguy.co.uk/ They do it on the last Sunday in January I've done it 6 times, and one time it didn't get above -5c all day - frogmen breaking the ice before you go in It's done for charity not to line someones pocket in America Rant Over Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 20:38:23 Loads of people from my gym are doing it and I wish I'd signed up
My friends from Vfestival did it last weekend in Leeds I think I'll try and do it next year? Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: RJack on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 21:20:41 If your looking to do Tough Mudder you should do the Wolf Run as well. There is a Winter one in November which I have entered

Can't see how people find enjoyment in it
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Thursday, September 12, 2013, 22:43:36 Fuck that. I love running, but hate mud and have the upper body strength of a nine year old girl. Can't see how people find enjoyment in it You do look a lot stronger in your picture Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: RJack on Friday, September 13, 2013, 19:21:42 I like all types of running tough mudder is more stamina & endurance than running tbh. Its a bit of fun but you will always get the serious types there though also.
I ran my 1st Marathon in May @ Edinburgh. It almost killed me but the pride of finishing & getting that medal at the end more than made up for it. Hoping to get into London through the Ballot when its announced in October. I 'm running Bristol Half this Weekend then Malmesbury next weekend. Also will be running Bournemouth, Swindon & Great South Run before doing Winter Wolf then Swindon 10k in November. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Monday, November 11, 2013, 09:18:19 Starting my training tomorrow. Fields and grass running. Fun.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Monday, November 25, 2013, 18:51:40 Getting a pair of vibram five finger running shoes as apparently they are the best thing when it comes to running.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Saturday, December 14, 2013, 21:10:37 Like none of you lot give a shit, but the south west event is in Cirencester next year.
I have just registered so no going back now. Will be asking for donations to a charity soon. It'll either be help for heroes or scbu at the gwh. I have just registered so no going back now. Will be asking for donations to a charity soon. It'll either be help for heroes or scbu at the gwh. There's one at Ciren? Typical, a month after registering for the Winchester one. What date's Cirencester? Not a massive fan of H4H, not a charity top of the list I'd like to go out and raise money for I have to say, each to their own though. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 07:57:59 It's in August.
The same as, but as default Help for Heroes is the registered charity. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 08:00:34 It's in August. The same as, but as default Help for Heroes is the registered charity. Yeah I saw the H4H thing once we'd signed up, decided to make up a stand alone fund raising page (when the time comes) as like I say there are plenty of other charities I'd prefer to raise money for. August as well, makes October in Winchester feel like a poor option. Oh well, adds to the 'experience'. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 19:17:12 Have you started training yet?
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 19:39:17 Nope, starting in January. That'll give me plenty of time to regain my pre-fatherhood fitness I reckon.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 20:00:14 What are you planning? I'm currently doing 5 mile cross country runs 2 to 3 times a week as well as football training/playing. This sort of weather is good because he fields are muddy.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 21:03:56 I'll be signing up with the guys from my gym
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Sunday, December 15, 2013, 21:14:57 What are you planning? I'm currently doing 5 mile cross country runs 2 to 3 times a week as well as football training/playing. This sort of weather is good because he fields are muddy. Not sure as I'm doing it with a few of my accounts and the PA's at the accounts are running a bootcamp style training for us - as one of them is very much into her fitness and the other one will like ordering us blokes about. Added to that I need to start running again, just build up my fitness levels steadily. Sounds like you have it covered, so much time to go, should be fine. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, 07:27:22 Any donations appreciated.

Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 14, 2014, 21:03:37 This has come around too quickly!!
Raised £717.50 so far. If we could make it to £1k it would be a real achievement. Any donation, no matter how small, would really be appreciated. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Stevens on Friday, August 15, 2014, 06:26:17 That looks awesome.
Was struggling for a novelty birthday present for the wife! Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Saturday, August 16, 2014, 17:28:06 Well I finished in just over three hours. Completed every obstacle apart from the monkey bars.
Absolutely loved it. Wasn't as hard as I imagined either. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: tans on Saturday, August 16, 2014, 17:51:43 So you didnt finish it then? ;)

Tough Guy is the original, and the only one that counts Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Saturday, August 16, 2014, 18:23:34 It is commercial but it's still a sense of achievement.

Commercialised or not, it's a pretty good achievement if you ask me, and what "counts" is very much up to the individual. Well done Sippo. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 09:40:49 You can call someone a prick via a keyboard
Sounds like you should enter Tough Mudder Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 11:44:26 Well done Sippo, great achievement. You going to do another one? I really need to start training for October.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 14:35:53 Yep, will be next year. Cirencester was 25 obstacles over 12 miles. So it's a lot of start stop. No waiting around at obstacles which is good, but helped a lot of 'strangers'.
May do monster race in nov. Title: Re: Post by: london_red on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 15:50:59 What time did you start sippo? We went off at 10.20 and did it in 3.5 hrs, I may have been one of those 'strangers'!
Really enjoyed it overall although a bit sore today, will definitely be doing another in the future Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: DRS on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 18:02:45 It's just commercialised bollocks Look forward to seeing the photos of you completing Tough GuyTough Guy is the original, and the only one that counts Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, August 17, 2014, 20:03:56 What time did you start sippo? Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, August 21, 2014, 10:07:13 Just signed up for TM no2 in Winchester....in Oct.. Should be a piece of piss, you should try doing the proper one in January when it's much much colder. If you don't get hypothermia then you're doing it wrong. Quote from: Wikipedia In 2000, one competitor, Michael Green, from Leicestershire, collapsed midway through the race and later died in hospital, reportedly of a massive heart attack brought on by extreme hypothermia. Green was 44 years old. According to Wilson, this was the first fatality in 15 years. Other injuries suffered in the event are common. Local newspaper reports suggested that among the competitors in the 2009 event, one suffered a broken neck, another broken pelvis, yet another broken pubic bone while there were a dozen broken or dislocated bones and 600 runners - including the winner - suffered hypothermia. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Batch on Thursday, August 21, 2014, 17:42:46 When does the indoor TM season start?
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 22:17:03 Sippo you doing another TM this year?

Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Sunday, May 3, 2015, 05:50:38 Good man and good luck. I've just signed up for the Cirencester one and hope to do Winchester too, all being well.
Hope today goes well, bit of rain never hurt anyone. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Sunday, May 3, 2015, 18:31:45 The new obstacles are tough. More team based. Cry baby was good, birth canal was hard. Very hard. Everest is now curved at the top.
Very hilly and wet today and got a sub 3 hours, which am chuffed to bits with. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Monday, May 4, 2015, 08:49:10 Under 3 hours that's quick. You forget the pledge or something? Or you help a couple of people and go at each obstacle?
Looking forward to Cirencester already, had my first run since the last tough Mudder yesterday, 110 days to go, about that anyway. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Monday, May 4, 2015, 18:59:43 We tend to help around 4 or 5 people at each obstacle. The obstacles this year are more team based.
Some people don't hang around to help others which defeats the object. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, May 7, 2015, 12:23:16 Anyone doing it from Swindon area can use this code for 25% off entrance fee:
Quote If anyone would like 25% the Tough Mudder entrance fee use the code HBDTM smile emoticon Kiss Gym are running on Saturday 22nd August at midday - you can join the team with the password K1ssmy@ss (it'll prompt you after searching for the team)! Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Thursday, May 7, 2015, 13:11:36 Not just limited to the swindon area. That code is for their 5 year anniversary.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: janaage on Thursday, May 7, 2015, 17:28:37 Think the helping out strangers is what makes tough Mudder. Loved reaching out for some struggling bloke or woman, getting them over, good feeling.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Ginginho on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 20:38:51 BBC Two now, a show about Tough Mudder (called Modern Times: Weekend Warriors)
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Abrahammer on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 20:56:05 Those 2 bellends treating it as a race, they seem to have missed the point completely
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 20:58:26 And running 26 miles the night before.
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Ginginho on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 21:05:36 T'was the week before, not night before. But don't disagree with the point.
Very tempted to have a crack at it. Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 21:32:39 You should. It's a great crack and very addictive!
Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: Sippo on Monday, June 8, 2015, 10:32:28 Ouch
https://youtu.be/yhMPtuhAFQ0 Title: Re: Tough Mudder Post by: farmer61 on Monday, June 8, 2015, 14:53:21 In October 14 I signed myself up for London West TM (May this year), then realised I'd probably never run 12 miles before in my life......so trained a bit gradually running from 1.5 to 13 odd miles, so in Jan I thought I'd have a crack at the Reading Half Marathon held in March, did that (very slowly :) ) and managed the Tough Mudder in just over 3.5 hours....!
My point is yes it's commercialised, but if I can do it, I reckon pretty much anyone can. Beware though you do get caught up in the "Hoo Rah" "hell yeah" stuff, but it's very well organised and a great crack and a real sense of achievement no matter how slow or what shape you are in. Doing the Cirencester one in August, for my Mudder Legion head band.....! Seriously, have a crack at it, just train a bit.......! Be aware running becomes addictive if you're not careful and it does hurt a bit...! Farmer 61, Aged 53 with two dodgy knees and dodgy left ankle....! |
