Title: Plymuff v Swindon - matchday thread
Post by: Panda Paws on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 08:15:12
I've never, ever made a matchday thread before. I've been saving my luck up for a day when we desperately need it.

And body, do we desperately need it today.

Three points. TALK TO ME!

I can't see anything other than another defeat. Hart will need time to turn this lot around and in my opinion they are so far gone that it is an impossible task. When we drop to Div 4 it gives us a chance to rebuild. I'm firmly in the Reg school of pessimism / realism.
Now hopefully they will go and prove me 100% wrong.

Think it might be a draw (as long as we don't let them score more than one), which after Saturday's result probably isn't enough.  :(

This has a comfortable victory for Plymouth written all over it.  Their confidence will be sky high after their last 2 results, they have a back to the walls mentality following the points deduction and they now believe they can get out of it.  Then a team who hasn’t won in 2 months comes onto their patch, they will be thinking they can fill their boots.

3-1 Plymouth, not sure why I’m going tonight, suppose it’s in the hope that Hart has been able to work some tricks on the training pitch now he has seen what he has at his disposal.

Is this a must-win game ? Or will Hart see it as a must-not-lose game as he did on Saturday.

Either way, I have a sneaky feeling that the form book will be thrown out of the window, and we will edge a tightly fought 7-3 win. Or another 0-0 draw. Or maybe something in between.

Which is why I think we might get a result.  This run of ours cannot last forever.

If we don't win this evening, it will - finally - be game over for me.  Of course you don't completely give up until the arithmetic says relegation is a certainty, but a draw or a defeat will mean I'm relying on blind hope and nothing else.

Title: Re: Plymuff v Swindon - matchday thread
Post by: walrus on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 13:29:21
I've got a feeling it could be a Charlton-esque performance tonight.  We've shown that we're incapable of winning the games at the start of the season we'd have all counted as home-bankers, so I think we'll break the run tonight.  That said, I'm ever the optimist and still think we'll stay up.  3-1, with Grella bagging a brace.  If we lose tonight, I may be forced into considering the remote possibility that we might perhaps be playing in just a slightly lower league next season.

No idea tbh.  Although we've played reasonably well lately we just don't ever look like we're going to score especially at home.

Away from home this season we seem to have had a fair few defensive meltdowns too

how the fuck is a draw a decent result?

We're playing Plymouth away, a team who now have little to lose and are putting together a good run of results, not to mention a decent team.  Even if we were at the right end of the league a draw tonight would be a good result.  Given the current sorry state of affairs, it'd be a fucking excellent result.

It's not tonight that is going to cost us relegation.  It's the 30-something other games we've been dragged through.

Incidentally, didn't we play Plymouth in the cup early in the season, and they were about 3 goals up inside 12 minutes?  Or did we beat them in the cup and I'm thinking of the league game?  Apologies for bringing it up....

Title: Re: Plymuff v Swindon - matchday thread

one look at the league table clearly indicates that a draw tonight is not a decent fucking result and never would be in a million fucking years.

I'm hoping the news that their club shop has closed will be a crushing blow to the players' morale. It's not much I know, but maybe being deprived of the opportunity to stock up on Argyle-branded mousemats, lunchboxes and little tiny shirts to hang in the car will bring home the reality of their predicament in a way a mere points deduction couldn't

Nearly but not quite for me. Realistically 7/9 points is what we needed stating Saturday gone. So two wins needed.

Yet there is part of me that thinks we can still survive with 5/9 from those three games. Obviously this part of me is stupid.

as others have said if we get anything less than 3 points tonight then we're effectively down. Regardless if we then win Saturday.

To have any hope of staying up we MUST win tonight and Saturday. Very Very big ask considering our previouse results but i'm keeping everything crossed

STFCplayer is skippier than a kangaroo and it's not even kick-off time yet.

They're trying to get people to turn off before it's even started.

Wilson takes the blame for that in my book.

I can remember seasons when the off field shambles left us pathetic on field. This season trumps those because we have had a reasonable budget that we have spunked away on luxury players like Caddis and Prutton while completely ignoring the spine of the team.

To fail to replace one striker was stupid, to fail to replace 2 and a centre back is fucking unforgivable.

If we are to have any hope of staying up this season it means playing players from last season.

So that means
                                         Lucas
Amankwaah       Cuthbert                    LJF          Sheehan

McGovern         Douglas                      Ferry       Ritchie

                       Pericard             Grella

They experienced the "winning" mentality from last season.

Never mind the players we let go, look at the shit we bought in, the low/no agent fees shit..... truely depressing stuff.

Rubbish on the pitch, rubbish off it. Can't see us bouncing back from this, unless heavy investment is made in the playing squad - but I can't see that happening at all.

I wonder what odds on Fitton calling it a day at the end of the season and letting someone else have a go....? I mean the guy was wallowing in a pit of despair after the playoff defeat, so whats he going to be like after this?

Personally I'd like to hear Fitton come out, put his hands up and apologise for a series of bad decisions that will ultimately cost us League 1 status.

then explain to us how he's going to make sure we walk League fucking Two.

Who's contract is beyond the seasons end? The ones i can think of are: JPM, Caddis, Ferry, Lucas, Rose, Benyon, Misun, Prutton, Flint and Ritchie. Any others?

Out of that lot, i'd like to see the back of Rose and Prutton, but who'd take them? Nobody....All of the out of contract players can piss off, except JD, Cuthbert and possibly Sheehan, for me!

Ho hum....Come on Swindon

We were having these same conversations 2 seasons ago. The thing is the players we have are 10X better than what we had then. We SHOULD be in the play offs with this lot

To go from a team who flirted with automatic promotion and lost in the final of the play offs, to a team that are rock bottom of the league in March is actually quite impressive!

Almost 0-2.

dont think JD or cuthbert have to sign, the contract is just extended as have that option

i just think we need more pace and power in the team. Difference for me this year is the loss of greer, paynter, austin, ward, and even amankwaah barely playing. We effectively lost all the strength and the pace with ward and amankwaah. all replaced with more technical players!

Bugger walking league 2.  Job one is making sure we have a team capable of staying in league 2.  When you look at what happened to Oxford, Luton, etc. there is very little difference between us and them.  Momentum in either direction is a powerful thing and we have a serious amount of downward momentum.

Two problems Sonic:
1. being a mid-table team with a points deduction still makes them a mid-table team, so it's not surprising we're below them.
2. Fitton may have had his part in the departures (and he always said we were a develop and sell team) but surely the signings are Wilson's responsibility (thereby undermining Fitton's policy).

Evans

O'Hanlon
Gurney
Smith

Miglioranzi
Pook
Peacock
Benjamin
Cureton

Not sure which team is worse

I tried to make it as like for like as our team tonight, but 5 midfield/4 midfielders 1 striker/2 strikers ruin it.

I always liked Jack Smith, steady and chipped in with a few goals. Steady Eddie as it were.

Prutton is a poor mans Miglioranzi and always will be.

Nicho, got shitter and shitter here but Rose is a gash defender. He's made a decent career out of a good free kick. I find it odd that he can be so good at one thing and so rubbish at everything else.

So, a couple of comments about why we aren't going with 2 up front. Would suggest, since Plymouth have hit both posts and had other chances, that we are trying to keep it tight until the last 15-20 mins, rather than risk conceding another early and having no chance of getting anything from the game.

I still think we'll nick a goal in the last few mins.

I genuinely think we're going to finish this game without making any substitutions.

if thats the case then I genuinely think I could do a better job than Paul Hart.

That's one way to look at it, but we may run out of time waiting for that. We also invite them on to us.

attack, attack,
attack, attack, attack.

Need a big man up front in times of need.

Having watched the open training session the other week, Aden Flint was far and away the best player in shooting practice.  He was hammering them in from all angles.  Maybe the Antoine van der Linden style defender up front may not be a bad option.  Not sure if it ever worked with Van Der Linden though.

I rarely get this angry at Swindon. I'm fuming.

When we haven't scored in decades, why play 4-5-1? Why wait so long until its changed? Was Hart just sent here to provide some false hope they dash it by being as bad, and completely unexplainable as Wilson?

Not sure there's much point counting. That would require play-off form.

Not even a fucking whimper or a glimpse of professional pride. Pathetic.

I expect trousering a couple of grand a week makes it a bit easier though. The poor sods.

It's ok for them, they can fuck off somewhere else at the end of the season. It's us fans I feel sorry for, we're stuck with this shower of shite.

No win in 13 since Jan 4th, not even ahead in a game in that period and lost every single away game. Two goals in six games, two shots in total tonight. Bottom of the league.

We have been the worst side in the league for a while now, and tonight has confirmed it. Think we'll finish 24th now. The Board need to have a very long think about where this project is going.

Positives? played ball on deck and played well and got forward at times, but  451 isnt working and Hart needs to see this, its more aless becoming a 460 as Grella is dropping deep alot, i am an optimist, theres still a chance of us staying up, but its a very very slim chance, need a huge re build, imagine most of the squad will be gone come the summer, only players that should be kept are Caddis as he seems to be on fire at the mo, Ritchie, Benyon as he is proven league two goalscorer, Douglas if possible, he has the automatic extension clause but alot of teams would be willing to pay money for him probably given his reputation, Flint and Misun would probably stay, other than that everyone else can go
Cant believe we have spent not far off a Million in transfers this year, think its around the 850k mark, and we are here! Where has it all gone wrong, most Championships barely passed a few hundred k let alone 850k!

Think we were bottom at the beginning of September....which caused us to rally a bit with 3 wins in a row.  There was sufficient spirit for that to happen, it's now just drained out of the club.

Thank God I live in Norway so I won't have to bear the pain watching that useless bunch of cunts week in and week out.

Things has to change on the PLAYER front! A good bunch of them seems more interested in updating their Twitter status than to play football.

Whereas we have critisised both the defence and the attack (what attack??!), I think we need to pinpoint the midfield as well. Those useless fuckers can't hit a barndoor with a beach ball, and mind our offensive players they sure could need a hand from the midfielders when it comes to scoring goals!

I would be surprised if we scored more than 5 goals the rest of the season. 4-5-1 and patience, of course. I await patiently the season to end!

Thank God the norwegian league is starting soon. 20th of March is the date. That will keep me from going mental about Swindon at last for a few months...

League Two, here we come!

I'd accept being proven wrong in my thinking we were good enough to stay in this division but please go down swinging at least you cunts. It's all we deserve.

Well just got back to my brothers who lives near Liskeard after escaping the Stalag Car Park and a burger on the way back...

It was shit.

two shots of any note....1st minute and 92nd minute.....that was it...

Grella showed plenty of effort and clever runs but blew it big time when in two great positions he fucked up .....i think he realised it at the end, head in the hands job.

I would of gone mad if the Douglas strike would of gone in but even then a point is not enough.

Nice of Cuthbert to abuse the few fans who were telling the the team it was piss poor......cheeky cunt...he is paid to play football...he is failing.....we fucking paid to travel and get in to watch that shit...so take it on the chin and then fuck off with Ajofree and Aaron Brown...another two pricks who give shit to paying supporters...

No highlights in this load of crap at all.

Only a third of the players looked interested or had fire in their bellies.

Small scuffle at the back of the stand .....later found out they were from Plymouth....nice..

Daggers looks like another disaster and Hudders could be a cricket score.....

Probably the worst town team i have seen since 79.  Cue massive clear out to prepare for that kick and rush divvy 2 shite.....roll on Oxford... :bye:

Fuck it, I cant help myself.  Yep Doherty is alright, but he's led astray by loads of knobs.  First time I met him he was really pleasant very affable.  That was until his cronies turned up claiming they were his personal archivist and then the bullshit ensued.  Fire alarms set off carnage around the venue.

Next couple of times I met him he was allright.

Another time he managed to fuck everyone off,  so we had to move loads of bands around so he could eventually headline a stage.  He then managed to get from stafford down to east london in 2 hours score some crack and get arrested.  Pretty quick going.

Last time he was again nice and also straight, as were Carl, John and Gary.  Unfortunately then Amy Winehouse turned up and she was off her box.  She was tried to get onto stage to watch the show on the drum riser.  The tour manger wouldn't let her so she kicked of and streamed abuse at him, saying 'fucking cunt, youre a mexican?  I used to like mexicans but your a fucking disgrace to your race' She then went and waited in her car and waited until he came out at which point she grabbed him and took him away.  Probably off to score some more.

Friends of mine who have worked with him have also told me he was a really nice, quiet intelligent bloke until the crowd turned up.

So all in all, yes quite a few people have met Pete and find him a nice bloke

See we can all bloody name drop.  I just try not too unless under severe provocation.

I'll come on Saturday if anyone wants to buy me a ticket. It's my birthday.

That'd be a fucking horrible thing to do to someone on their birthday. I'm still feeling guilty about giving you my BOGOFF one last Saturday, certainly wouldn't want to fuck your birthday up as well

Can’t be arsed to read back over this thread but my thoughts on what I saw last night.

The 4-5-1 issue, in all fairness Ritchie was joining Grella upfront on a regular basis, Prutton was pushing forward a lot more than usual.  The formation can work with the right players we just don’t have them.

Not the worse performance I’ve seen this season in terms of work rate and effort, I know that not saying much.  Before they scored we were on top in terms of possession and territory and the Ritchie header looked like the keeper only just managed to get to it.  The goal was totally the fault of Timlin IMO, their left winger broke from one of our corners or free kicks and as Timlin hadn't gone up for it he ended up in the right back position.  He then just let the guy run at him, backed off and refused to put in anything resembling a challenge, the ball across then ends up at Fallon.  Frampton was almost guilty of exactly the same crime when Mason hit the post the 2nd time (I think).

2nd half we seemed to dominate in terms of possession and territory without a half decent chance to show for it, we put in a staggering amount of decent crosses into the box with nothing close to chance to show for it. Plymouth did nothing in the half and we looked reasonably safe at the back.

Overall Rose was dogshit, Smith was doing his usual whispering to the defence which resulted in some dodgy moments, Cuthbert spent half the game playing hoff ball as usual.

Ritchie as usual was our main attacking threat, Grella showed nice touches but is clearly not suited to playing alone up front.  Caddis was probably our best player by being a threat going forward and looked solid at the back.

First time I’ve really seemed Mason, seems a genuine threat upfront, oh what might have been he had of joined us.
