Title: Chesterfield vs Swindon Town - Official Matchday Thread
Post by: JoeMezz on Friday, November 27, 2015, 23:40:18
My 1st ever matchday thread OP was this Tuesday's match vs Walsall.

Going to keep my 100% record and going for a 3-1 win.

Nothing but disaster today.

The fish gets two in a row after the Spirerites hit the bar six times and the post four.

It's a coconut shy...

Barry smashes in a shot that goes in off a defender in the 60th minute and we hold on....

Chesterfield is twinned with Yangquan in China. Chesterfield has sent Morris dancers to China in a cultural exchange. That's a long way to be sent into exile.

STFC 2-0 win today.

Its my birthday and I'm feeling confident about today's game, although that could be something to do with the champagne breakfast I've had this morning!   :pint:

Going for a 2-1 to the Town.

What is Swindon coming to, a champagne and Oyster bar? Swindon is a rough working class town, it lives by its spit and sawdust. Who the fuck was stupid enough to think of that kind of outlet in a town full of left wing thinking and Stalinist education! We need more pie shops providing working class food.

Nice try embryo. Unfortunately there are some people who actually think like that. That what's held a lot of stuff back. I remember over a quarter of a century ago when they said a gay bar would never work in Swindon pmsl.

Great to see from up here that we've won a couple at home this month. Travelling today more in hope than expectation, looking for further signs of progress since the last game I saw at Wigan. Reckon we may just stop the rot on the road today, going for a 1-1 draw.

Shit bench, too. Balmy and Iandolo FFS - what about Randall and Marshall.

Be nice to see Stewart get some game time - but a team with Rodgers, BOO and Barry gives us a 25% mega-shit factor.

Another defeat looms, I fear.

For Chesterfield, read Swindon in October.

Their plummet from last season's heights is not unlike ours. Are the reasons similar?

Yes. The chairman is all about making money. He flogged Doyle in January last year when they were looking good for play-offs/promotion and sold/released/didn't off new deals to the likes of Darikwa, Roberts, Ryan plus highly-rated manager Cook in the Summer. They've been replaced largely by youngsters and Dean Saunders in the dugout. Having lived with a Chesterfield fan at uni, I can't say I'm too disappointed to see them struggling.

I understand that Kasim has decided he is just too brilliant to play away games north of Birmingham.

Fair play to the team and management. Sounds like the early goal bred confidence and perhaps not having Kasim in the side and change of formation made all the difference. Ajose and Obika proving a good partnership now.

What a fantastic shock.

Maybe our shit luck has turned at last.

Back to back...unreal after last week.

The Fish delivers 3 L wins in 4...

Text to say Rodgers had started had me depressed.. (Sounded like he had a good game first half).

Turned the radio on at 20 minutes and we were holding on.

Decided not to tempt fate and left the BBC website updating.

Cmon Town...the only was is up!

Title: Re: Chesterfield vs Swindon Town - Official Matchday Thread
Post by: stfc11 on Saturday, November 28, 2015, 17:17:44
Ling:
-Most happy with clean sheet
-Started bright
-Defend as 11 attack as 11
-Front two worked tirelessly and our first main port of defense
-Diamond formation worked 'wonderful'
-Anton Rodgers outstanding at back end of diamond
-Chesterfield never got out of stranglehold we put them in
-Obika was best player today, in work rate, application and keeping the ball
-Two up top retains the ball
-Fourth goal was super ball
-Had good passages of play
-Confidence that win gives you helps with pushing forward
-Deemed to be smooth passing team, but have pride in defense and clean sheet and stopping other teams scoring
-El Abd lead team superbly
-Louis Thompson massively important
-Thomas has missed out, have same problem in two weeks time with loan players, but hasn't got to worry about it for two weeks
-Pity we have the 2 week break, wants to play tomorrow
-Use the two weeks off wisely on the training ground
-Gladwin loan finishes on 3rd of December, period to see what happens, dependant on QPR manager, but would love to have him longer
-Jamie Calvin - doesn't know a lot about him, has been training since Ling got here, no where near first time ready, work in progress and needs to improve on parts of game
-Jordan Stewart - looked sharp in training, important that he had time to settle, good to have back in 18, being on bench will help his confidence, learning what we are about, won't rush him
-Jordan Williams - had a reaction to injury, going to be longer, doesn't see him coming back in near future, with loan situation with 7 won't be best thing having another person to leave out

Obviously not about Town but demonstrates his past with Sherwood and history with video analysis. Makes him sound less of a technical director and more of a video clipper and analyst. Pretty quick rise so sounds motivated.

Classic Swindon, don't really know where that came from, thought we'd see an improvement today but that it would take a few goes on the road before a win. BOOM!!! Couple of keystone cops defending moments after we went 2 up but nowhere near the chaos of recent months. Defence on the whole excellent, midfield energy levels much better, pressed well up the pitch, front two just fantastic. Gladwin almost scored a worldy hitting the post in injury team after 30 pass move. Very difficult conditions with wind and rain so showed some grit as well. Anyway for me pick up of the bunch was El-Abd, held it all together at the back when we were under the cosh, particularly towards the first half. Beeks goal great, watch the feint before he shoots to take their centre back out. Fucking over the moon, strong lager in front of the football league show tonight to celebrate!

If someone could just tack Louis' goal from Tuesday on the end I think I could forgo the rest of the reason and just watch that video on repeat. Love Ajose's second, can't believe it was his 8th. Shame the issue has been focusing on how shit we are or we'd be giving the lad a lot more credit I think.

The opposition may have been awful but it's hard not to feel a bit energised by such a rout, especially after last week. When you're in the shit goal difference becomes a hell of a lot more important.

Decent turnout too COYR

Reckon we may have seen the last of Kasim in a Town shirt. 'Injury' Saturday a convenient excuse to not play him without scaring off any possible suitors (if there are any).

So, after our best performance of the season, next game does Lingy keep the 442 (how does Branco get back in) or revert to 352 and chance losing the benefits of the 4-0 win confidence wise.

Also, with Rodgers having a good game does he replace him with Traore?

Maybe a bit early to eat humble pie but Barry seems to be improving game on game, too.

Get Nathan back to replace BOO and we can look up instead of down

Fucking useless shower of shite.

But seriously folks, that was a much better game. I don't think anyone had a bad game to be honest. Some moments of not so good which were far outweighed by the better.

Barry's ball in for the first was great and the rest of the team acknowledged that by surrounding him after the goal. He also made some telling defensive challenges.

Beeks and Ajose are growing as a strike partnership. Robert was an absolute dynamo. Gladwyn manages to look like he isn't interested whilst ripping the opposition apart (mostly). Louis was indispensable and Rogers ran around, challenged and made incisive passes to forward running players. El Abd led the defence well with Turnbull getting stuck in in true Jordan Turnbull fashion. Vigs made some crucial saves and also spent less time fannying about for the short ball out.

All in all, a joy to watch and I can tell my grandkids (if they appear) that I was there :beers:

It's always good to win handsomely on the road, but we shouldn't get too carried away, we're still in the mire.

Chesterfield were proper shite, with a home record even worse than ours. Saunders went for the old play a load of kids trick to try and change things around, and lost his job.

What we have achieved this week is to give ourselves a chance, without the 6 we'd now be detached.

The squad is still unbalanced, we haven't got a settled system, and the inexperienced lads will still have off days.
