I would have him back in a shot just to see Sheridan try and deal with him, now that would be a match made in heaven!

He was a good player. Too good a player for the league he was playing in.

That he has gone on to do nothing is down to his attitude, not his ability.

"Was" being the operative word. He has done nothing for years.

Also you cannot separate attitude and ability. In elite sport, attitude IS ability and ability IS attitude.

Well, you can. He was superb on the pitch.

I never knew Lou Macari was running a homeless shelter. Brilliant video on it on Radio 5 Live

While I'd agree with you on that, you can differentiate between his attitude toward his sport which seemed to be pretty good and his attitude to life as a whole which was terrible

He was good from time to time, of course.

But footballing ability is about consistency and discipline. They are important parts of someone's talent . He is not a good footballer.

I'd say he was consistently very good, not 'from time to time'. One of our best players game in, game out. I don't remember him having a single poor game for us.

Off the pitch is another matter entirely, but on the pitch...

This, otherwise are we going to claim that Maradona or Gascoigne were not 'a good footballer'?

His ability to hold on to the ball while being manhandled by defenders was immense. We could really do with that now.

Also George Best and add Robin Friday who is a good comparison to Ranger, a great player who ruined a great career by being an absolute bell end off the pitch.

His hold up play was reminiscent of the Chief.  And for all the questioning of his character, his on field temparement seemed unprovokeable and tactically focussed.

My only questioning of his usefulness as a player would be, iirc,  a tendency to make himself unavailable.  Not so much because of Crown Prosecution requirements but, more whimsically, at the last moment for his own personal reasons.  Not exactly an on-field problem but it's kinda helpful to be able to plan for a game.

No idea how he's currently performing but it has to be good for everyone if he is able to focus on football.

That’s strong recall for a guy who played half a season for us 7 years ago

I remember him being quite handy on the pitch and always surprisingly calm - but I’m sure he must have had a couple of stinkers in there

Ultimately his spell with us looks like it might end up being the best of his career - which, given it was 7 (seven) years ago and the guy hasn’t been signed to a professional team in nearly three of those years, I’d be hesitant to say he’d be much good now
