Great effort...

Our away attendances have been brilliant this year....I suspect we have broken our away fans records at loads of clubs, rotherham, barnet, burton, macc, maybe torquay, etc etc...

In that context, home has been a touch dissapointing..

We're getting good attendences at home, and the atmosphere is great for the big games or for periods of the smaller games at home....but the expectation is there to win so it's not quite as exciting. plus there's not the day out atmosphere that a lot of our away games have with the alcohol flowing.

Away games are much more fun, home games atm are relatively dull and quiet unfortunately

Title: Re: Leicester Away
Post by: Devizes_Red on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 14:52:27
In turn, the atmospheres for games at the County Ground are not helped in some cases by the small travelling support from teams like Macclesfield, Barnet & Morecambe for example.

With regards to the away following, it helps that the team are winning, playing good football and visiting some reletively local & new grounds.

Whatever the reasons, its still fucking brilliant.

The buzz from an away win is far greater than a home win, the vast majority of my favourite Town wins are away ones.

The best away fan friendly pubs near the ground are Local Hero and The Counting House. Just asked on Foxestalk.

Had a look at them on google maps and they look a good size with decent food.

3,247 sold as of close of play last night (as mentioned), so expect we'll at least sell our initial allocation. Leicester have sent another 770 tickets (to top up the 250 or so not sold at that point).

Sounds like we'll take a decent following! Though wouldn't it be amazing to sell the whole 5.5k allocation out? ;-) :beers:

We have sold 3,500 tickets and according to a fella on the Leicester forum they are well on the way to selling out (which I find surprising).

Hi guys and gals. How are you? Just thought I'd pop on here and say hello.

Looking forward to Saturday and seeing a great away following in the 3,500+ Swindon fans. Top effort.

Just offering a little advice to those that haven't been to Leicester before. You'll not get any trouble here as for the most part, we're a friendly bunch. Avoid the pub called 'The Local Hero' if you're in colours (home fans only) but if you're not in colours then go for it, you should be fine.

There's a pub just up from The Local Hero on Freemans common called The Counting House which welcomes away fans and they don't mind you having a little sing song with the Leicester lot in there, it's all good natured, bear in mind though it's a busy pub and can take a little while to get served, just means order twice as much when you do get served  :pint:

For the real ale drinkers there's a great pub called The Swan&Rushes which is right near the Leicester Royal Infirmary, depending on which direction you're coming from it's a bit of a walk, but worth it, beer is excellent there, note though, you can't use a card to buy drinks/food here, it's cash only.

As for the game, because you are bringing so many you have the full allocation in the corner, meaning our singers in L block have had to be reallocated. If you're unaware, the King Power stadium is a library at the best of times so moving some of our vocal lads and lasses isn't going to help much, so don't expect an electric atmosphere. However I've no doubt you'll make plenty of noise with the numbers you're bringing, the stewards are pretty reasonable, you'll be able to stand without any hassle from them, so you can enjoy a decent day out with no bother.

Hope you have a great time in Leicester but I hope it's us progressing to the next round. See you Saturday   :)

Cheers for the heads up, are these pubs quite close to the ground? Where's best to park our cars?

If I drive I normally park on Hughenden Drive, Lothair Road or any of the side streets nearby, it leaves you a little bit of a walk but trust me, for getting out and back to the M1 it's the dogs dangly bits as you shouldn't get stuck in too much traffic. There's also match parking on Aylestone Road, just make sure you're not on yellows as the traffic wardens are cocks and hang around on match days.

See map: It also shows you where the Local Hero is - The Counting House is about 50 yards away, can't miss it, they are the nearest pubs to the ground. The Swan&Rushes is a bit further, situated nearer the hospital and the prison on Infirmary Road - but this is the closer pub if you're coming in from the train station. There's also your usual pubs in the city centre but they're a good 20 min walk away from the ground.

There are a couple of other pubs not far from the Swan&Rushes too, one called The Sir Robert Peel and the other called The Bricklayers Arms, shouldn't get any bother in either of those. But stay well clear of a pub called The F Bar - I wear the right colours and still don't feel welcome in there, I think it's where 'our boys' hang out...??

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&safe=off&q=hughenden+drive+leicester&gs_upl=3753l5758l2l5986l9l9l0l0l0l0l94l741l9l9l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=653&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x487760d483de9b9f:0x681667854b02e8ce,Hughenden+Dr,+Leicester+LE2+7&gl=uk&ei=gqohT7ezB-SL4gTPxrXACA&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CCEQ8gEwAA

As for standing guys, you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever. If enough of you stand then they'll leave you alone. If you want to stand but are lower down the stand, then just move higher up - they'll not trouble you. Just for info row PP is the back row.

I thought i read he could?

Im probably wrong mind.

I read they were down to the bare bones the other day. However a defence of matt mills and sean st ledger will be tough to break.

Got a mate who used to watch St Ledger at Preston and never rated him. Not to say it'll be easy, but there must be some faults there.

With the last three cup games being on TV abroad, just wondering if we receive any sort of revenue from them?

Having a read on the Lester forum it looks like they are really struggling to put out a full side, certainly in midfield with Gallagher and Moussa injured and with Drinkwater cup-tied.

Time to over run the midfield and grab the game by the balls so to speak. I would play with just Benson up front and 5 in midfield bringing Smith back into the team with Risser sat in the holding position just in front of the back 4.

But then again thats a very different way from how we have been playing so maybe it would be best to just stay 4-4-2 and play to our strengths.

From the Foxes forum...
http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/79376-swindon-fa-cup-prematch-waffle/page__st__240

As mentioned above they seem to have very little options, so seem to think the squad is likely to be...

                     Kasper

Peltie      Mills    St Ledger    Konchesky

Dyer        Wellens        Danns    Kennedy

             Beckford    Nugent

Subs
Tunch, Howard, Taft. Logan, Etc..

Still one hell of a side!!   But  with the most vocal part of the stadium being the 20% that is red, anything can happen... C-O-Y-R!!

Want somewhere with the lunchtime kick off....what's the best bet, Local Hero or the Counting House? Both look a bit plastic / family places, but you can't have it all.

Is there parking actually at the rugby ground on welford road?

Decent side but looking at that they have their fair share of dirty/petulent wankers.

Beckford - Jumped up cunt who thinks he's better than he is
Konchesky - Never the cleanest
Wellens - Nice bit of history with us (Sammy Igoe at Blackpool anyone?)

I think you can park at the rugby ground, costs £3 I think (might be £5). Apparently there is on street parking if you get there early enough.

I'm going by car. My driver (brother, not slave) will be leaving Devon at 6, pick up another exile in Exeter, picking myself and mate up in Chippenham where the car will be pumped full of booze and bacon butties for the trip up the Fosse Way. Planning a few beers before the game and if the game goes well, a celebratory curry after the game washed down with a few more pints.  :pint: :D :pint: :D  :pint:

from the bbc site,
TEAM NEWSLeicester have a number of injury concerns in midfield with Paul Gallagher, Andy King, Matt Oakley and Franck Moussa set to miss out.

Michael Johnson is not fit while Danny Drinkwater, Liam Moore and Nathan Delfouneso are unavailable.

Swindon have defender Alan McCormack back after he completed a two-game ban.

Winger Etienne Esajas is struggling with a knock and Luke Rooney, who has signed from Gillingham, and Billy Bodin are both cup-tied.

The lads on the Leicester forum said the Counting House will have the lunchtime game on - and is the most away fan friendly of the lot - and only 5 minute walk to the ground from there :)

We are doing the train through Brum - getting to Leicester at 12.49 - can't wait !!!!

The Counting House is very close to the rugby ground.  Btw I think the people who built the new stand are the chaps we are looking at to do our ground, damned impressive structure.

New Road Inn on Welford Road going out of town is another option.

Should be a bit quieter but still an easy walk to the ground.
