The second link suggests we could have made 700k from the deal.

I do sometimes wonder if moving to a big club & getting lost in their system does these kids any favours.

I understand they are chasing a dream, but you would think that they would have a better chance of getting a career in football by playing in the first team of a lower league team than getting lost in a Premier league teams U20's side.

Would be interesting to know how many international footballers have come through the ranks at Crewe in the last 20-30 years compared to those of the academies of the top premier league teams

Charlie Austin strongly linked to Aston Villa for a fee  of around £4 million.

At least he wouldn't have to get used to a new colour scheme!

Hope he goes for much more than £4m

Benteke being touted at £20m so if Burnley are on the ball then Austin should be worth more than £4m - would like to think £8m nearer the mark for a goalscorer who has the happy knack of getting goals with the right service.

Christian Roberts: 12 pints of Stella a day, every day. Incredible that a professional footballer could get away with it. Looks to have turned the corner now

It's all in his autobiography written a year or two ago Iffy. Don't think Andy King really helped him on that score.

There was also a story about him and Merse agreeing not to run when playing against each other. He was in a bad way though, lost his wife (and kids) over it too.

I Watched the whole of that show which was aired a few weeks back. It was Iffy who basically helped him get sorted. Interesting insight into addictions. It was a shame an injury finished his career.

By the end Cox,  Carrick and Milner on, makes you realise we have had some half decent players here albeit on loan over last 10 years.
