Last season some championship clubs were charging £10 in all stands when they were playing lower league opposition😁

Gotta think Aldershot will come out in droves for this being close, low ticket prices and a big game for them, so you'd have to charge them a tenner for the bank if we did tenner for the town end. Probably makes it not worth it overall.

Average home attendance this season so far is about 2,000. 2676 v Oxford City & 1758 v Lewis being the lowest.

We cant afford to open the bank for a small number. The last time it was used for home fans one of the supporters groups covered the costs of opening it.

I’ve know idea then as I didn’t think they could get 1300 away fans in the corner unless they took more of the home space.

1300 to Dorking but only 800 to Swindon doesn’t sound logical.

In a way it does. Look how far away from Dorking Aldershot is and how easy it is to get there. Plus there is the winnable game scenario and add in their average home gate figures I posted the other day. I’d expect them to fill Arkells away section. Adding a feasible number of extra bums on seats to make the SB a viable option is another matter. On what could possibly be a fucking cold and wet day in SN1 I’d think twice if I was a shots supporter and a SB ticket was the only option available. Still we shall see.

I think the same disappointment at losing was there, but there was the added dimension that the tempo, energy and quality wasn't there - Apart for a 5-10 minute spell after we equalised.

I thought it was like watching Scott Lindsey's Swindon team play.

I expect all loanees to be playing. Its now quite unusual to refuse permission, and the loan contracts (which I would expect to last 12 months with a break clause if at least two parties agree) are for the full season.

Yeah I think that is the norm now. Season long loans in their previous form don’t really exist for lower league clubs anymore, it’s usually always with a review period in January where the loaning club can recall. Sometimes there is a small recall fee involved like Flynn mentioned for Young/Kemp but for Prem/Champ sides loaning development players down to our level, it’s usually structured by the club loaning the player paying X% of the players wage each month based on how much they play (the more they play, the less they pay) like Wellens mentioned.

I doubt they would sell many more than the allocation they have TBH.

Aldershot have a home average attendance of 2,140 so they have sold nearly 60% of the home average, which is very good already.

If 1,229 of them are happy being moved to the bank for the sake of a few more tickets sold, then they can crack on. But I doubt that will be the case.

Ticket allowance rules for the FA Cup for those interested;

"How are away end allocations calculated in the FA Cup?

The calculation is quite simple in the FA Cup.

Prior to the semi-final and final, which are played at Wembley, visiting clubs are allowed up to 15 per cent of all tickets for the stadium they are playing at.

That is unless 15 per cent of the stadium exceeds 9,000. So clubs travelling to Old Trafford, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium and the Emirates Stadium will have their allocations capped at 9,000, unless the home clubs are willing to offer more.

Despite the calculation seeming quite simple, there are still a few stipulations.

The visiting club must make a request for the amount of tickets they would like for their fans within four days of the draw. More often than not, teams will request the full 15 per cent but, in some scenarios, they will take fewer tickets than they are allowed.

In the instance that not all away tickets are sold by the visiting club, the remaining tickets must be returned to the home club on or (preferably) before the day of the match.

The tickets in the away end are not the only ones that are accessible to the visiting club. They are also entitled to a third of seats usually reserved and known as “home and visiting directors’ seats” up to a maximum of 24 seats.

The disabled facilities must also be separated. The visiting club have the right to claim 15 per cent of those seats as well.

Visiting clubs will not always be guaranteed 15 per cent of the seats throughout the stadium, though.

The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) must also agree to the away allocation that has been proposed. The SAG is made up of representatives of services including the police, fire, ambulance and building authority.

So if the CG holds 15,718 as wiki suggests then 15% is 2,357 which means we would have to open the bank if they so wish. The club suggest that the away bit of the Arkels seats 1,314??

Man City was a complete sell out yet only was 14,753. So I guess that would be the unofficial official figure for a full house.

Didn't we have to close (small) sections down in the City game to accommodate the TV cameras and other such TV accessories? So a full house that wasn't on the Roger Melly would potentially be able to get that 15k+ figure?

Yeah you have to take some seats out for TV production. Camera at the back of the bank is always a few of them.

Also I'm pretty sure the seats put back in the Arkells was done after Man City.

All depends on who you find yourself sitting next to, had a couple of good chats with people at away games, but at the Morecambe game on one side of me I had two old guys who spent probably 80% of the game debating whether the Morecambe pitch was wider that the one at the Country Ground, whilst the other side of my mate was the most pessimistic lad ever who seemed to get very stressed and vocally convinced that every time we lost the ball in the Morecambe half they were invariably going to score, Jesus I thought I look on the dark side, but bloody hell it was hard going!

It certainly does. The group around me were trying to create an atmosphere, but then the Martin Aldridge ditty got an airing and it was evident the older troglodytes were in town.

I would mind betting Kemp is a no and Young is a yes, cant see any reason Murphy would not be able to play, not close to the 1st team.

Suspect they will recall Kemp in January regardless unless he tells Franchise he does not wish to play for them, so he either gets sold to us or to a higher team which is a possibility.

Then Young having the caretaker manager step down to be replaced by another caretaker manager may help us and they may not be thinking about Young at the moment and concentrating on what they have got.

Until tomorrow when we find none of them have permission to play.

Considering Mark Hughes has been sacked and Franchise still allegedly owe us money for the Twine sell on, I was thinking if one was going to stay it would be Kemp.

We're probably being optimistic on either staying really.

Our attendance will be a lot lower today than it was our last home game for example, because many don’t give a shit about watching us play Aldershot.
If we win today and get Colchester for example in the next round, no one will go.

Is a 1st round game against Aldershot going to bring in significant cash? Nope. Is it appealing? Nope. Is a mid week replay appealing, super nope.

How can you talk on behalf of all fans though?
I love the FA Cup first and second rounds. Looking forward to today.
Let’s hope we don’t go out mind.
Isn't it hard enough already being a Town fan without loving the second rounds of Cup competitions?  ;)

They used to have a following of squaddies based in Aldershot back in the 80s and were always after a fight.

Not a single attacking option on the bench is a shocker. Hopefully this is a level of opposition Minturn is more comfortable with as he was well out of his depth against Gillingham.

Wouldn’t hurt to lose by another three or four when you’re four nil down at home at half time to a non league team.

Half down, 4 goals down and the score absolutely flatters us. If the  washbag was still doing it's hall of shame, this would make a fine entry

Depth is shocking, yes, but this is effectively as strong of a side as we could’ve put out (apart from Young). To be so convincingly dismantled by a NL side is a huge, huge worry.

Experience for next season the rate we're going.

Don’t think I have ever left a Swindon game early before (if I have it has been in injury time). Seriously contemplating fucking off now. In the DRS concourse with a beer. No desire to go back. Might give it til 60 then leave. Or sooner if another Shots goal goes in. Probably worst first half performance I have ever seen from Swindon.

Title: Re: Swindon v Aldershot Matchday Thread
Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, November 4, 2023, 16:08:34
Well this has to be the worst home defeat in our history. Certainly in my 48 years of supporting the Town, Aldershot not even a league side.

Non league club, 4-0 down at half time, gutless performance by the sound of it, could be more down.

Last week I was berated for saying I would back Aldershot at the bookies against us, looks like I was right. I hate to be THIS right though, utter fucking shit. Sheridactyl level of shitness.

Hopefully the players buck their pathetic ideas up for the 2nd half.

Left after the 6th - earliest I’ve ever left.

Now, that wasn’t a ‘normal’ performance - it wasn’t just a shit performance, it was a couldn’t give a shit performance by the majority of players.

It was telling for me when the players were sent out early for the 2nd half. FBT stood out as wide as he could away from all the others looking 100% disinterested. Whatever team togetherness there was early on in the season has completely disappeared.

So, what’s changed from a poor, but understandable performance at Franchise, a half decent performance v Gills - albeit a defeat and that abomination I witnessed this afternoon.

Flynn gets a new contract, player training under dubious circumstances and the rumour (unfounded) of non payment of wages.

After that we, the fans, deserve an explanation, no matter how difficult it may be to be open about it.

That was not just a poor performance.

Can’t even say “I wasted £X watching that”, I knew full well a loss was coming when I bought that ticket, no preparation for that though

Big shoutout to Aldershot. Clearly did their homework, stuck 3 attackers onto our back 3 and we shit it completely. More hunger, fight and desire. Really liked their striker Tolaj, wouldn’t mind a move for him if he’s not convinced we’re a clown show club after today.

Sad to see so many other clubs get their house in order whilst we turn further and further into a circus.

Flynn:
- One of top 3 most painful moments for Flynn. The others were play off defeats.
- Hurt and embarrassed
- Aldershot came here and worked as a team. Out worked, out performed us, out fought us and out played us at times
- We looked like a team that hasnt played together before. Thats inexcusable
- We were 3-0 down after 9 minutes. And the ball was out of play for 3 mins! Thats against a team that is non-league
- And it got worse! The worst game hes been involved in in pro football
- Had to change formation after 10 mins for personal pride
- Players weren't doing their jobs
- Told the players at half time they could still get something from the game
- Then they gave away 3 more in the first 15 mins!
- It could have been even worse. It was almost damage limitation!
- If you want to say its Flynns fault he'll take it.
- We win together and we lose together
- Cant do anything when they cross the white line!
- Hawes said you sound lost to explain it: Have you got any ideas? Did you see that coming? Flynn said he didnt
- Yes we have given sloppy goals away, but not like that
- Only 2 players can potentially hold their heads up - just!
- No one else was nowhere near. Noone wanted to take responsibility. Everyone looked at someone else. We need some characters in to change it
- Missing RHM and Young. Lots out injured. We are light on the ground, but that had nothing to do with them being out
- That was the players who went on a 9 game unbeaten run
- If they want to keep turning in performance like that, but as soon as I can get more players in, they will be comfortable sat next to Flynn
- Cant be any splits in the team. We all lost that. Flynn, the senior players and the youngsters (but Flynn wasnt blaming them)
- If you dont improve you dont last long in football
- Players should be embarrassed. Flynn is. And he's hurting
- Rest and recovery tomorrow. Can't bring them in and punish them. That wont help.
- They have to show that was a one off
- RHM slipped in training and hurt his hip.
- Young denied permission by Bradford.
- We were diabolical. No excuses
- Flynn was really sorry for that performance for the fans. Fans dont deserve that. The players need to come out and show the fans that it was a 1 off and wont happen again. If the players dont put in the hard graft for this club then they wont be here for long.

Brewitt:
- Embarrassing performance from start to finish from everyone
- Terrible first 10 mins from us
- Didnt compete with them
- Can only apologise to the fans
- We are all good enough players to play anywhere across the back. We were just poor today
- Scoreline and start suggest we underestimated them. But Brewitt didn't feel that
- Just didn't get going and cope with their quick start
- Everyone has a plan until you are punched in the face. We were punched hard and didnt recover
- Worst game Brewitt feels hes been involved in. Brewitt said he has to look inwardly as a leader in the team
- Wasn't a lack of fire from him - No
- Just unacceptable to concede those goals
- Need to bounce back on Tuesday
- Have to take frustration into Tuesday's game and put it right
- No time for argument in thge team. We have to stick together and hold eachother accountable

Hawes implied that. Flynn put him right and said that players these days aren't brought up to respond to that. It would only end up in more injuries. With a paper thin squad that already has injuries, we can't afford that. We need to plan professionally for Tuesday.

Starting with Dokes at RWB, Hutton at LWB, and Shade up front (or anywhere near the starting XI) was a huge mistake. Why is he afraid to try Hutton - Dokes - Brewitt - Clayton - FBT?!

That aside, every last one of the senior pros was a disgrace. No effort, no basic technical ability, no desire, no accountability, no good.

Easily the worst and most embarrassing performance I’ve ever witnessed. For a while, this club can fuck right off.

A day of shame that needs to be fully owned by the club from the boardroom down through first team management & to the playing staff.

Pointless banging on about the budget.

Will expect a massively positive response from the team on Tuesday night.

Depends if they’re owed money or not. Maybe todays result reflected the players attitude to the alleged fiscal error.

Unless there’s a clique behind the managers back I don’t believe the players deliberately didn’t try unless someone can prove me wrong. If the wages scenario did happen or hasn’t been resolved I’m sure Flynn would have been aware and reassuring the players that it would get sorted.

Personally I was over it after 10 minutes. Not great we’ve missed out on a few quid but a competition we were never likely to go far in as per usual.

Let’s see if/how we bounce back in our next couple of league games before we slit our wrists and talk about relegation (we need 29 points from 31 games fwiw)

This season 1st round prize money was £41k and 2nd round was £67k. Obviously there would have been gate money for the 2nd round as well, but getting a big tie in the 3rd round is realistically the only way we would have made a lot of money out the cup.

That said, in our position it sounds like every little would help.

Quite. On an annualised budget plan you can reasonably expect as a minimum the money for losing the first round proper tie and the subsequent prize money that would guarantee, outside of that nothing as the gate money share would include so many variables such as home or away tie, standing of the opposition and only an estimated guess of attendance and ticket prices. However you look at it, yesterdays debacle an unknown and much needed financial opportunity has gone begging. Good luck to Aldershot I wish them well in the next round and a huge payday in the third if they’re fortunate enough to get that far.

We have to move on now, don’t look back in anger you cannot change the past. The ‘revelations’ of the last 24 hrs are there for others to fight over and sort out. I’m sure we all have bigger fish to fry in the grand scheme of things and in my case a long train journey this pm up north for a week’s induction and training for my new job.

The players and management have Tuesdays rearranged Colchester fixture to put things back on track before facing not only our home fans a week after the Aldershot humiliation but the league leaders. Saturday is going to be so hostile if we get turned over by Colchester without a fight.

After the first ten minutes of being sat there in total bemusement I could not understand how the same players that showed so much early season promise of better things to come, failed in every respect to show that same resolve.

The final score was a total embarrassment, but having witnessed some other diabolical displays over the years, this one, although going into the record books apparently, seems to have that worrying element more of things not being right for reasons hinted at elsewhere than lack of footballing ability. Tuesday’s game will be a definite litmus test of where we are heading.

Who and how?

I guess someone like Shade?  but we don't really have a glut of pointless players taking up space on the bench do we?  If anything, we need to keep what we have and add to it, it's fucking obvious.  That goes to the how bit - if we need cash injections to get through one of our busier fixture months in a season, we are fucked.  I really do not see how any of the foundations currently in place support adding to our wage expenditure, plus we likely lose at least two players from loans.

If Charlton win - then no.
They’ll still be in the cup & might be financially better for having the replay (assuming it’s on TV)
…I mean who is to say they didn’t fix the draw purely for the extra finances.

Pushing us onto bigger better things with a new wealthy owner funding our push to the Premier League with masses of funding and a rebuilt County Ground to boot.

In a couple of years I hope we can look back on the game vs Aldershot and say it was pivotal in our turning point in our promotion season.

Pushing us onto bigger better things with a new wealthy owner funding our push to the Premier League with masses of funding and a rebuilt County Ground to boot.

I would say that Saturday was THE lowest point I have had in nearly 50 years of following Swindon, kicks the 5-0 loss at MKD under Sheridactyl into touch.
Saturday was/is a double edged sword. If the players were, indeed, trying their best and still got butt fucked then God help us.

If they downed collective tools on purpose they’re a bunch of cunts.

Cant argue with that, tonight will be a big test of character and professional pride for them.

A very important game. Not so much winning or losing it but attitude, character and commitment
