i am having a debate with a fellow town fan.he thinks after what hoddle done for us (promotion) that i am out of my mind when i say he is a shit manager..his argument is he got us promotion has managed england, chelsea blah blah all that bollocks...

my argument is hoddle is without doubt one the best PLAYERS this club has ever had and probably no exageration to say one of the best players EVER internationally, worldwide etc.my argument is hoddle the player took us up that year without him as a player we would not have got promotion.

am i right???

If Hoddle wasnt a player, I think we would have still had a good team because the quality was there but it was Hoddle as a player that gave us that extra speical something or other which made us as good as we were.

We had a good team, but Hoddle was a quality player.
I know a Brum fan and whenever I mention the 6-4 game he always says, "Glenn Hoddle won that game for you".

I think Hoddle is a class manager as well as a class player. As for doing a shit job for Wolves, that's nonsense. He got the job when they were in a relegation battle, they then went 18 games unbeaten and finished 9th, this year they're 8th still in with a chance of the playoffs.

Without Hoddle as a player we would not have got promotion and without Hoddle as a manager we would not have got promotion either. If Hoddle had stayed I'm sure we'd have stayed up in the premiership too. Basically he's a 100% Swindon legend.

but players are all the same, they like managers that play them and hate managers that dont play them, hence Hoddle didnt take to Gazza to the World Cup, dropped Beckham and Sheringham aswell in the past

His record speaks for itself. Any manager who takes Swindon to the premiership has done an incredible job. Of course it helped having him playing too but he managed us well and the team was never the same after he left.

For me Hoddle is in the same league as Keegan. Both are great 1st division managers, but will never really cut it at the top flight. Its because for average players who worship him will always respect him, even if he is arrogant, whereas the top players cant hack it.

I'll probably get linched in a mo, but I think Ardiles had more of an influence as a Manager than Hoddle ever did.

Hoddle was a good Manager but his real help for us was as a player and leading the team from the back.

Ardiles changed a team of players who everyone thought were devoid of real football skills into the best footballing team the 2nd division has seen in my footballing lifetime I'd say.  That takes something, especially when you can't influence it from the pitch.

Both class managers, and I agree about Ardiles, I think that was the best season of football I've ever seen.
