Apparently being given 'Freedom of the Borough'.
This isn't a dig (as i know nothing), but could someone who's lived around these parts for longer than i have explain what it is he is supposed to have done to deserve this 'honour'?
Thanks.

Basically, he's been around for a while and now he's being pushed out so they wanted to give him an honour in recognition of ..... erm, erm, having been around for a while.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your recent postcard regarding swindon town football club which has been passed to me for attention.
The council recognises that swindon needs a good sports stadium and also needs to promote a range of facilities to encourage sports participation by all age groups. The council is there keen to work constructively with the club to look at all opportunities and over recent weeks we have had some useful and positive discussions with the STFC senior management team.
However we wish to draw attention to the fact that swindon town football club owed £415,000 to the council for rent and rates in May 2002 when it went into an arrangement with all its creditors to avoid closure, as it could not pay all its debts.
The club understands fully that we cannot simply gfive away public assets. While we are very keen to support the club in the biew of its importance to the life of the town this has to be on the clear understanding that the club is able to pay its way for the use of the public assests at the county ground. There are many issues which we and the STFC managemnet team still need to consider. Including the clubs historic financial debts and its future financial sustainability.
Further dialogue will be taking place between ourselves and the club to explore options for the way forward and we anticipate that this process will continue until early-mid spring 2006.
Hugs & Kisses, up the reds.
Mike Bawden

FYI The council has improved to a 2 star council so is no longer one of the worst performing in the country, still has along way to go to be one of the best though, much like the football club :-))(
