anyone reckon we'll actually sign anyone other than loan signings and gurney? hope so. my priorities would be:

are goals conceded is pretty good, its just goals scored thats the problem. i reckon we need a new striker to partner fallon. cureton wont fit in to our hoof ball style and holgate hasnt impressed me much. roberts is crap.

second, would be winger who can also play centrally. i think shakes is slightly weaker than brown given that he cant cross.

happy new year! lets hope its better than 2005

if we played decent football cureton would fit in well..

shakes was good yesterday and yes has a crap cross but great speed and is a good player to have.

gurney will be a good signing...shows commitment and effort unlike others.

Holgate i reckon has done well. young, gets himself aobut, ain't scared, we need that and if he can follow it up with a goal it will be nicely welcomed.

problem is, no money so would be cheap loans. the loan player wont come in and score us 20 goals that we may need. so, who knows.

we must have some money for free agents just to pay their wages? surely? we got roughly 9000 for swansea game which must be way above our break even gate surely some of this could be allocated to new players wages? or will swindon never spend money on a player ever again ?

yeh, we are far from breaking even i would imagine.

Even this 6 figure sum from sky won't have much money in it for players. if any.

I heard it was £100k.  Apparently many other clubs were offered a similar oppurtunity with Sky, but decided against it.  Thats due to potential management frictions.

As for new players.  Well i think we are now pretty firm in defence.  I always new we had a good defence, and we have good cover.

I think the midfield needs improving.  We need a creative midfielder who can create that piece of magic in a game.  I think Shakes and Brown are good enough on the wings,  we need to rotate Migs, Gurney and maybe a new midfielder.

Upfront we have Fallon, Cureton, Roberts and Holgate.  I guess we will have to wait and see how Cureton and Fallon combine.

When Fallon scored v Forest he was played in by Cureton.....so they have played together.

I've got a sneeky feeling that we'll end up signing Paul Smith (3rd time lucky???)....
He's been on loan back at Gilliscum and apparently cancelled the remaining 18 months of his contract with Walsall as he was allegedly promised a new contract with the Pikeys.
It turns out that Paul Scally then denied they had ever agreed to sign him so he's now without a club and I reckon he could end up with us.....

Thorpe's wages would surely go to the signin of a free agent or loan player(s)....He was no doubt on a lot of money as he was a 'big' player, so wages would be high.

we would have had to pay up most of his contract anyway, the wages arent freed up as we've had to pay him off.

I dont think we paid him the full amount, the money saved will go towards Gurney

That will be it signings wise bar loan players, saying that it depends how much of the loan players wages we contributed this last 5 months

I don't know to be honest. I don't think that the board would have allowed anybody to be on big wages. We will have to wait and see what Iffy can pull out of the hat.
