My mate (he's 33) has been excited and overjoyed for the past 9 months cos his sister was expecting a baby and he was going to be an uncle.
Last night i got a text saying a baby girl had been born but not sure weather he would be at work the next day cos the baby was having problems.
Half hour later he text again, this time saying it had died.
Just don't know what to say to him.

Whatever you say make sure you don't tell him how you posted details of his sister's personal tragedy on an internet football forum - i doubt he'd be chuffed with you at all.

That's got to be one of the worst things to experience especially if it was your own. I have a niece and a nephew, and I don't know what I would do if something happened to them.
Nasty.

Short of finding his heart thats being ripped out of him - there's not much you can do but be a mate.
Send him a text, just saying that you're there whenever he needs you.
Sorry just doesn't seem to cover it does it....

Unfortunately theres not a lot you can say when this sort of thing happens. Its not nice to lose a baby, theres that build up to when its born when everyones excited and then that happens. Its horrible. I feel for all his family.

Sorry just doesn't seem to cover it does it.... I'd agree with that, just say you're there for him if he needs you. People don't often know what to say, but it's the sentiment of the words that really matter.

I was thinking of taking a card up to the family tomorrow and maybe a 4 pack of Stella to cheer him up. I've never delt with anything like this before so don't know what to do.

Just needed to tell someone. Was not really much need for that comment. He only wanted to tell someone and its a good feeling to know people have been in the same situation as you sometimes and we're all real people on this forum! Not like we're weirdos.

That must have been terrible. I remember how excited I was for 8 months when I found out I was gonna have a niece. The 2 nephews before them weren't as exciting but I was a fair bit younger.
