Some of the mentioned have featured in recent World Cups.

I think it's quite refreshing to have some new names in the Cup.

We don't have a clue what these teams are like so let's not write them off yet (Cameroon in '90, Bulgaria in '94, Jamaica in '98... sort of and Senegal in '02). Drogba scored tonight for Ivory Coast and Essien is also going to the Cup.

Roll on Summer 2006.

Recent WC's have shown that an outsider can come through and get to the later stages....particularly African sides, Cote D'Ivoire for example have the likes of Drogba and Toure....Ghana.... Michael Essien.

T and T have Dwight Yorke....maybe he could do a Roger Milla.

Considering Greece won the European Championship I am not at all shocked and would expect at least one of these teams to do well.

ivory coast & ghana will cause a few shocks, not sure about the others.

england have a good chance of getting to the later stages, but i still don't think we'll win it. quarter-finals at the most.

Good shout Mex.  A lot of people in Britain (especially the Scots) seem to suffer from this kind of attitude.  I suppose that's why everyone gets their hopes up all the time.

The days of shit teams qualifying ie Zaire/Haiti in 74, have long gone.  Everyone who qualifies must be a pretty decent side. With the climate being a little friendlier than the Nippon/SK WC this one should be an entertaining one!!

I watched Costa Rica v France in a friendly in Martinique....CR were 2-0 up at half time and only lost it late on 3-2.

Ronald Gomez is quality, although getting on a bit now....and of course they've got Paolo Wanchope....but he was out injured.

I watched bits of that Reg, do you think Henry meant the winning goal?

At first I thought yes.....but on several replays I don't think even Henry is that good.

For those not seeing, it was a an attempt at an outrageous back heel a la Zola v Norwich...but Thierry missed, and the ball struck his standing leg perfectly on  the heel and flew in
