Three bids remain in the running to stage UEFA EURO 2012™ following today's meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Malta.

Second phase
Italy, Croatia/Hungary and Poland/Ukraine have all been put on to the shortlist for the second phase of the bidding procedure, meaning the bids from Greece and Turkey will not be pursued. A final decision on the hosts of the 14th staging of the UEFA European Championship will be taken in December 2006.

Looks a one horse Italy race now .. is it a fix by UEFA??

Eh?  Why's it a fix?  Am I being extremely dense here?

I don't really think it's a fix though.  Just that it would be a logistical nightmare for Turkey to host such an event.

Personally I hope Italy does get awarded it.

Major obstacle to Turkey has to be that despite being in UEFA they are largely in Asia, with EU asscession for large poarts of the eastern bloc either reality or planned for the future, I wouldn't be surprised to see any of the bids suceed, Italy may win as joint bids aren't universally liked, but I fancy Poland/Ukraine

Craoatia/Hungary would be a good place to hold the tournament.  Both places look quite nice from what Judith Chalmers has shown us.

'The joint cities of Buda and Pest offer enchanting trips, and contrasting character, and the damatian coast of croatia and city of Dubrovnik are a great trip'  or words to that effect

Italy had the world cup in 1990 though - don't reckon they'll get the Euro's this soon after....

Hungary/Croatia for me
