have been reading in the paper lately that iffy & the board are looking to re-new fallon's contract sooner rather than later, to prevent him leaving on a free in the summer.
dont you think it would be worth them looking to extend o'hanlon & a few of the other players contracts aswell before christmas?? smith, ifil, shakes, roberts etc??
someone on another thread mentioned cureton & whalley are the only players that aren't out of contract at the end of the season. we could be in for another mad summer if everyone else leaves.

i don't know who is out of contract, but O'Hanlon is definitely worth hanging on to IMO.

Le God, very true, we need stability, ie get sean O, evans, fallon, smith etc tied down to keep a nucleus solid, so it should be easier to adapt if players move as they inevitably do, if we get a solid spine that'd be good.

It isn't that simple though. I doubt many players will be interested in renewing their contracts in our current situation. I think we will have to turn it around on the pitch before players start wanting to sign up.
Also, financially, if we are relegated the likes of O'Hanlon, Smith etc. will need to be shipped out as it is unlikely we would be able to afford their wages.

Those under 24 are covered for compensation provided we have offered them a new contract.
That covers the majority of the squad.

I imagine most players won't be willing to negotiate new contracts until they know what division we're going to be in next season, especially those like Seano who could probably find another club at this level.

True, I guess all we can do is offer them something and see what they say. With our luck at the FA i can see us getting screwed compensation wise and ending up with 18p for the whole squad.

I'd agree with this, although it annoys me to an extent If you're a regular in a side that goes down, then evidently you ain't as good as you think you are :x

Well they could be offered contracts with relegation release clauses.

we want some of our best players to stay even if we are not going to stay up. if we are to have any chance of going back up the likes of Rory and Sean'O are really important to the cause.

I think most of the players will probably leave at the end of their contracts, definitely if we go down. It will be like last season....those that can get a better deal will do so, those that can't, will have to sign a reduced contract. Maybe a few more of the youth players may make a step up a la Pook.....in that respect at least relegation isn't going to be financially crippling. Then it will be another shed load of loans woith other clubs paying a chunk of our wage bill.

I wouldnt be surprised if everyone out of contract left in the summer. A lot of our players though are not exactly putting themselves in the market place.....for anything other than Confernence or below.
