Maybe not suitable for a Friday night post, but some books I've recently read and what I thought of them......

Anyone who is in anyway a fan of Bill Hicks, should in my opinion read this book.  Written with a lot of contributions from people that new him, making it an interesting and inciteful biography that really shows alot of sides to the man's character and the way he lived his life.

A real life insight into American traders in the far east, based on a guy who traded with the likes of Nick Leeson before his downfall.  Interesting to a point, although I didn't feel it told you enough and the style of writing was a little basic.  Worth a read.

A brilliant story involving eastern mysticism, following Siddharta on his path to enlightenment.  Beautifully written, and a very relaxing and thought provoking tale.

I've actually just re-read this, something I never normally do.  An horrific tale from the trenches of the First World War, a period of time we don't really hear much about anymore now that it is as good as out of living memory.  A very disturbing book in places, it does make you wonder about the human spirit, and the instinct for survival.  There are a few little things that annoy me about book when it is linking up the story, though apart from that it is an almost perfect novel.



Anyone else read anything lately that they'd care to share?

Sonic, did you read The Plague in the end?  A mate's just lent it to me.

Just getting back into the reading thing, find it easier to get to sleep afterwards on a week night. As my parents have just been on holiday someone leant them the whole Dan Brown set, currently I am just getting into Angels and Demons

Was a good read, but then i am a very big fan of the Chili's, so may not appeal to all tastes....

What about Ken Loach, have you seen any of his films?  I ordered one off of amazon.com and it never came :evil:   I'm getting Hotel Rwanda and the Bill Hicks one that was stolen instead though

I've only ever seen Kes but I think we may watch Sweet Sixteen at some point, saw the opening sequence a few weeks ago.

So far we've watched Local Hero, Trainspotting, Young Adam and I Know Where I'm Going.

Hotel Rwanda is superb, I saw it a few weeks ago and posted about it and no fucker cared. It's absolutely incredible, you'll love it.

We'll be studying La Haine next year in film as well by the way

Sweet Sixteen was the film I ordered.  Saw a little bit of it when it was on BBC a while back, but was too distracted to pay proper attention.  Ordered it because a friend recommended it.

In my opinion the best Herman Hesse book is the Glass Bead Game.....
