Had a great time at the 94 World Cup in the US. I'd bought tickets for all of the 1st round matches in DC, which included the group that England was due to play in before they got knocked out by Norway (Remember: Maggie Thatcher, Sir Winston Churchill, your boys took on hell of a beating). The consolation was being befriended by a buch of Norwegians, who took a shine to the fact that I was wearing my Swindon shirt - Unlike the Spurs and Leeds fans that I met in the ground !

1981 - Norway 2 England 1

Norwegian radio sports commentator Bjorge Lillelien became world famous after Norway's part-timers shockingly defeated England 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier at the Ullevaal Stadionin Oslo in 1981. At full-time he burst out in English: "Lord Nelson! Lord Beaverbrook! Sir Winston Churchill! Sir Anthony Eden! Clement Attlee! Henry Cooper! Lady Diana! Maggie Thatcher - can you hear me, Maggie Thatcher! Your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!" It was the first time Norway had beaten England, with Hallvar Thoresen scoring the winning goal.
