Disagree.

All left us performing to the same level as when they arrived.
Benda’s debut vs Plymouth in the pizza cup he had a few dodgy moments, by the end of his loan he was very impressive/consistent. 4 goalies all gone up a league after 1 year with us, don’t think you can say none improved as they left in a better place than when they joined.

Issue is we’ve also had plenty of goalkeepers not really improve either. Kovar, Fryer, Bycroft, even Ward hasn’t really improved. I don’t know if Wollacott really improved because Charlton didn’t really like him, only Garner did. Brynn is tough again because he was already good, but by the end of the season he was making mistakes at Crewe away.

It’s not a problem to be asking questions of the coaching because we’ve been struggling with goalkeepers for a while and at set pieces it’s become especially prevalent, be it the defence or goalkeeper

Extending the question from goalkeepers, how many *footballers* in any position have clearly improved whilst at Swindon in the last few years? A fair few have got moves up, but not sure how many of those were actually improved by us vs playing below their level. I'm not sure we're exactly a high performance environment.

I think Terry said on LSPod that whilst our academy seems to be doing good work, our first team environment doesn't improve players and it's tough to come up with many examples. Plenty who have gone backwards!

Hard to believe when our coaching team is masterminded by the guy who has been to Clementes' house

Directly under Garner, Mckirdy would be one and I expect because Garner put a lot of time into working with Mckirdy. Last season could argue Freckleton, under Kennedy he struggled massively but by the back end of the season Holloway had made him more of an assured presence

Ironically the only time I ever saw Benda play in the flesh was away at Carlisle and he was crap!

I suspect its quite a tricky one as I wonder how many players at this level have basically reached their ceiling by just getting into the league with little/no scope to get much better. I'm sure someone with considerably more time than I could analyse where players have gone to level wise after leaving here, but much as with player quality at this level generally they are at this level for a reason, the case often being best illustrated by the mythical ball playing 4th tier centre back who if they actually could play a pass would not be in the 4th tier....

I just hope the performance is that of the second half of Cardiff for the full 90. If so we'll win 4 or 5

This.

Matt Ritchie came to us as a good player and, under the management of Paolo Di Canio, he got better as his subsequent career indicates.

The same could be said of Alex Pritchard.

Interested to see how Holloway sees this one in regards to who partners Smith up top. He’s clearly a huge fan of Drinan who I thought looked good v Cambridge but Princewill looked head and shoulders above this level on Tuesday night. Suppose I’d rather the option of Princewill off the bench if we’re losing rather than Drinan, but he certainly made a good case for a start

I'd play all three. Assuming Kirkman and Kilkenny are unavailable:

Ripley

McGregor

Mabete
Wright
Wilson-Brown

Munroe

Oldaker
Clarke

Drinan
Smith
Prince
