In 1977, I left the mean streets of Devizes to try the rural idyll that was Croydon. The area was well served for live music but I only went to 1 gig while I was there which was the Strawbs (rip Dave Cousins) at the Fairfield Halls. At around the same time, I couldn't be arsed to go 400 yards over the road to see The Ramones, supported by Talking Heads at the Greyhound.
I've made worse decisions subsequently but this is the one that stick in my mind.

I got offered free tickets to see Live Aid at Wembley in 1985.
The day before I was offered overtime at tripple pay and didnt take up the offer and decided to stay in Swindon and work, I was 19 and foolish and thought that maybe there would be another chance of a similar gig in a few years time.
I have always regretted that.

The only band I was looking forward to in Live Aid was Costello, and all he did was a Beatles cover!

I lived in Norwich for 4 years (around 2007-2011 I think) as a student but didn't attend a single match at Carrow Road. We were too busy studying partying to care about watching the local team, despite there being a few Lowestoft boys in my friendship group.

I didn't go to Wembley in 1993 because I had an end of first year exam on the Tuesday and was a bit skint.
I failed the exam anyway and had to retake.

I think it's just me and Rich Pullen in the whole of Wiltshire that missed it

One more to add to the list - I didn't go because my other half at the time kicked off saying we 'had things to do'. Wembley ( and success ) was such a common occurrence back then that I assumed another opportunity would come knocking soon. Unsurprisingly that relationship didn't last.

My Mrs was heavily pregnant and about to drop my first "DAN" for that match and was adamant I couldn't go... I went, had a great day, and my kid was born on June 16th. Can you imagine if I had caved? Also, my brother died in a plane crash 4 days before the final, so it was a complicated time for me mentally. It was probably the only day during that whole period of my life where I could shut my brain off and enjoy the day for what it was, and for obvious reasons, no alcohol was consumed - just lived for the day, and it might have been the last time in my life that I truly did that without really considering others.

In contrast to those that missed the 93 final, we (despite severe reservations) decided to go to the final in 2015. Think that counts as a bad decision 😢

The only Wembley trip I have missed since I was born was Preston, and it was by choice because I had a bad feeling, turns out that my gut is a pretty good barometer..

Leaving the game at half time when 4-0? down away at Birmingham in the Hoddle era. Listening to the final scores on the radio in the car on the way home was a proper WTF? moment!
