They have a rich owner with deep pockets and ambition. That's the important bit. The rest is meaningless. If someones willing to spunk money to get you up, happy days.
Indeed, it doesnt always work though, look at Gillingham and Carlisle last season.

We had a rich owner with deep pockets, once. But not the ambition. The problem was it was someone else who was spunking his money to get us up and he got fed up with it. What might have been.....

It will work for Franchise though. Good manager with a good CV and good, experienced players. No way they won't go up.

Would still wager that if the ownership of them and us remains the same over the next 5 years both of them will be above us.

Carlisle have done a lot of work behind the scenes which will help them.

Not so sure about Gills, he's pumped a bit of money in for not much return so far. Ainsworth will probably see them shithouse enough to be pretty good next season.

This sounds exactly like something we would do.

I dread the thought of that. A transfer ban will hamper the next owner hugely when it does happen.

Ollie Hawkins signs for Barnet. One of the few players who would have been an adequate like for like replacement for Smith in terms of a target man. Capable at CB and ST.

Why do we need a replacement for Smith?

We don’t as far as I’m aware. Just hypothetically if you did want to bring in like for like cover for a target man, they’re a decent match in how they play.

I assume Drinan will be the Smith cover if we ever need it but they’re more far apart in their style.
