Wonder if anybody used to go there to see bands. From memory, which is not so good
nowadays, I recall:-

The Smiths
Bernard Manning (sorry, I didn't realise he was a fat racist)
Lenny Henry
Neil Innes
Elvis Costello (supporting The Blasters & Nick Lowe) - freebie
Tenpole Tudor
Yazoo (never actually saw them as got pissed off waiting three hours for them to appear on a school night)

There may well be more but the mists of time etc etc.

I'm getting a sense of your musical taste. As an aside, I saw Budgie in Devizes. It was a long night.

The Style Council played there in 1984. It was something called Sight & Sound In Concert and the concerts used to get broadcast simultaneously on R1 and BBC2. Delighted to see it's made it on to YouTube. Will have to watch that later...

Some incredible bands on the list. Incredible that they played Chippenham.

I always thought I was too young to have gone, didn't realise it only closed in 99 so no excuse - though I suppose it was Branson and the 80s  when the big bands played?

My overriding memory of it is it being in the news for drugs/ fights almost every Monday! (Probably a false memory)

Public Image Ltd where Lydon stormed off during the encore when some of the old punks of 'nam decided that spitting was still the done thing.  Fair amount of it on my back when I got home.

New model army a couple of times as well.

I never went, but I remember reading a story about an April Fools joke; they sold out a gig for "The Farm" and then pulled back the curtain to a packed club only to have pigs, cows and a tractor on the stage
