This has prompted an old story of mine I had totally forgotten about, years ago (maybe 20-25) i used to go travelling alot and would always take a swindon shirt with me. The idea being I would give it to someone on my travels, the more obscure place the better.

This had a caveat. I will give you an example, I went to Fiji, more precisely and island group belonging to Fiji in the middle of the pacific. I gave the ferry driver a shirt but on conditon if anybody was to ask him about it his first words in response always have to be "I hate Oxford"

I often wonder if anyone who received my shirts ever got the chance to say it to anyone
