If anybody on here really has any idea of what Ryan Edwards actually is then please let me know, as far as I can tell we have basically nothing to go on other than Wiki and Tansfermarkt?

I means theres YouTube. He’s comfortable in a back 3. Played on the right of that I believe. He can get goals too. Just don’t watch his infamous game against Aberdeen that essentially ended his career with Dundee utd. He was their captain also.
No doubt he’s played in the middle of the 3 as of course in a back 4. 6ft 5

On a totally different point, was their third an own goal off Shade? Didn't necessarily look like it was heading in.
Total fluke and would have definitely been classed as an oggy a few years back! Was going comfortably wide

So we end up with a slower version scampering to cover when the other 2 CBs are marauding forward?
This is true. Edwards is now the new "saviour" for no obvious reason other than he's not Brewitt(who is actually decent in my book)

I would prefer someone a little younger and hungrier.

We don’t need another youngster.

A 29 year old, experienced defender like Ryan Edwards is exactly the type of player we need. Whether it’s him or someone else.

Tend to agree with this - although UTR raised a valid point that maybe a better defensive organiser might be better placed to stop Dokes & FBT going at the same time opposed to Brewitt.

The formation leaves Brewitt exposed and Dokes & FBT should have enough about them themselves that they don’t both go but they do….

If we are looking for a Brewitt upgrade - they need to have good mobility and stamina…

I don’t think the fact people want Brewitt replaced for an Edwards type is because they think he’s poor. (I don’t don’t personally think he’s great, but he’s been okay this season)

I think it’s simply the fact we want an experienced head back there, and Dokes and FBT are crucial going forwards, so an experienced, out and out centre back who’s also a leader should help tighten things up.

I know football isn’t played on paper, but Ryan Edwards CV suggests he is a better player than Brewitt, and I personally have seen enough of Brewitt that makes me feel like I don’t want to be relying on him in a promotion challenge.

Fair but unless it’s the middle CBs job to control the outside CBs I’m not sure how a leader massively helps because a lot of the time the only defender he’ll have to lead is himself…

Whilst it’s a bit a of a stereotype - the more experienced leader type CBs tend to be a little bit older & slower and that would be a disaster for us.

Someone in another thread said Shaun Taylor would be great in this team - I think he’d be terribly exposed & look non league - where as someone like an Ian Culverhouse would be perfect.

I think some people also feel Edwards is a 33 year old whose legs have gone.

He’s 29 years old who’s played a good amount of games as captain in the SPL over the last couple of years. I can’t say I’ve ever seen him play, but as I said earlier, his CV would suggest it’s an upgrade.

Someone experienced like him I agree but still wondering why nobody has snapped him up if he's highly rated. He will be 30 in a couple of months and don't seem in any hurry to find a club which I find a little odd.

The game has changed so much that even people who played in the Champ for us, like Alan Reeves, would look like they were playing in diving boots if they had to play that role.

George McEachran didn’t have a club last season until signing with us in February. Tom Brewitt didn’t have one until he signed with us in March.

It means very little.

I'm old fashioned and like to know where they've been playing recently and what standard of football they've been plaing in.
I'm not saying he wouldn't be a good acquisition if he dosen't break the bank on wages but looking at his precious club I'm just a little sceptical on what we would be signing.
Hope I'm wrong of course.

Amorebieta
On 7 March 2023, Edwards signed for Primera Federación club SD Amorebieta.[27] He featured in 11 league matches as the club achieved promotion to Segunda División.
